urban outfitters dress diy.

IMG_1.jpg

did you ever have one of those days where nothing (and i mean nothing) seems to go your way? today was that sort of day for me. from the moment that i woke up, until now, i felt as if luck was just not on my side. in fact, i am pretty sure that lady luck was having a big ol’ laugh at me!!!

venting aside, the only thing that is keeping me going is looking at the before and after photos of this dress. what began as one of my favorite, ballerina-inspired items from uo, was after two years turned into a more modern dress style. modern for me, at least. :-)))

IMG_2-3

i began by removing the arms, and sewing on lovely, black, semi-sheer fabric in their place. then i used the same fabric to add … you guessed it! a hello scarlett bow, of course!

IMG_4.jpg

no dress of mine is complete without one. ;-)

IMG_1.jpg IMG_2.jpg

then *g* and i had a photo shoot late in the evening, on an extremely windy night, after work, and after i changed in our truck. also, the power was out. even though i am wearing a smile in addition to my newest diy, it was pretty chaotic. however, the photos did turn out, so i was a happy girl in the end.

well, they turned out for the most part. the bow was actually tucked into my dress the whole time we photographed it! yet, given the day that i had, i could not expect the outcome to have been any different.

c’est la vie, right?

favorite fridays.

our city’s first entertainment expo rolled into town this month. *g* and i were so excited! initially, we were going to the event just so that we could meet ‘smoking man’ from the x-files (see photo above). however, we came away with so many books, shirts, and collectibles that ‘smoking man’ ended up becoming a minor attraction.

q: *e*, what would you say was the very best part of the whole event?

a: well friends, i will tell you! it was when we got to meet and hang out with kim coates from sons of anarchy!!!! ay caramba!!!

here are the photo highlights of that weekend …

diy antler motif.

IMG_5.jpg

this project is one that i had actually created at the beginning of the summer. because it was so simple, i felt like maybe my followers would not care to see how it was done. after months of being on the back burner, and because the end of summer is nearing, i thought that i had better post now! it’s better late than never, right?

you will not need very many supplies for this project. there are also many different ways that you can go about making an antler motif. i sort of cheated with mine when i kept the cutout for this guy and was able to use the cardboard as a ready-made stencil. obviously, you will have to make your own stencil if you haven’t yet purchased buck jr. from urban outfitters. (that, or hand paint the antlers on!)

IMG_1.jpg

step 1: start with some wood

IMG_2.jpg

step 2: use a suitable stencil

IMG_3.jpg

step 3: spray paint the stencil onto your wood

IMG_4.jpg

step 4: let dry, and hang your artwork up for all to see!

as a bonus, you can ask your significant other to straighten your newest diy so that you can photograph it for your blog. then, when he is stepping back over the fence, get him to trip and fall and bend the fence, and then proceed to photograph him instead. ;-)))

p.s. did you like this diy post? if the answer is yes then click ‘like’, or better yet, leave me a comment!

what i bought.

IMG_1IMG_2.jpg

it is always a gamble to buy clothing online. if any of you have ever done it, you will be well aware of this fact. however, like gambling, online shopping is also addicting. getting an item that ends up fitting and looking perfectly is like winning a hand at a card table, and it only makes you want to wager again.

when i received this particular dress in the mail and opened its package, i immediately felt as if i had hit the jackpot! not only was this dress so much edgier in person, but the wonderful seller had sent along the cutest surprise, a ring! now, each and every time that i wear this dress, i make sure that i am also wearing my new accessory. :-)

i guess that the moral of the story is that while shopping online may not always turn out for the better, when it does, it is so worth it! have a great week, friends. :-)))

for baba.

IMG_1-2

followers of hello scarlett may remember this post that i wrote in honour of my baba. at that time, her heart attack had only recently occurred, and she was slowly getting back onto her feet. i wrote it in hopes that we would be able to continue our weekly shopping trips, and because she more than deserved the attention and the surprise of finding herself on the internet.

this last sunday, my baba passed away.

i will never be able to describe what she meant to each and everyone that she knew. i will say that i will never forget our hilarious excursions, watching ‘i love lucy’ in the hospital, or spending weekday afternoons together (i was her home care and she was my entertainment).

my baba was such an amazing woman. she loved her family, and relished any company to come her way. she was funny. she was a fighter. she appreciated life and would not take no for an answer. i can only imagine what sort of trouble she is getting up to in heaven with her late husband, and with everyone who has passed on before her. i do know that our lives here will not be the same without her.

i love and miss you, baba.
