New Years Eve DIY – A Simple Cocktail Display

BeFunky_IMG.jpgIMG_2.jpg IMG_3.jpgIMG_4.jpg IMG_5.jpgIMG_6.jpg IMG_7.jpgIMG_8.jpgThe idea for a beautiful cocktail display actually came from this Restyled Cart that Elsie Larson posted last year (on my birthday!). Since then, I have been adamant on the idea of displaying our collection of alcohol and glassware in a unique and creative way.

We actually had a similar vintage cart to Elsie’s, and so I immediately turned ours into a similar little mini bar. However, after about two months we desperately needed the space back in our kitchen and so my cocktail cart went away. That is, until I had a brainwave to move our bar sky-high. After removing our cupboard doors, I wallpapered the interior of our new cocktail space. Then, I filled it with our best glassware, an apple dish full of sugar, and hung one of my favourite bottle openers. If you are planning on throwing a shindig for New Years, then a trendy cocktail display is definitely a must-have!

Have a safe and happy New Year!! See you in 2014!!! :-)))

New Years Eve – Wire Crown DIY

IMG.jpgWire Crown:

Wire

Wire cutters

IMG_1.jpgStretch the wire to about the length of your arm, then double it.

IMG_2.jpgCut the wire from the rest of the roll. Cut that piece of wire in half.

IMG_3.jpgUse one half of the wire to form the base of a crown. Use the cutters to twist the ends around the crown.

IMG_5.jpg IMG_4.jpgWith the other half of the wire, use the cutters to twist one end around the base of your crown.

IMG_6.jpgStart to form triangles with the wire. Do one at a time and be sure to wrap each end around the crown before beginning the next triangle. Make as many as you can. (Optional- cut another piece of wire in order to add a chin strap.)

Many of the blogs that I follow show pictures of these whimsical wire crowns. Since they are so simple to make, I was debating whether or not to even post this DIY. However, given that New Years Eve is just days away, I thought that this was probably the only time that I could get away with it! It is, after all, the perfect craft to make for yourself and friends on this festive night. I know that I will definitely be making more if we end up being the hosts of a party. :-)))

Have a wonderful weekend!

A Visit to the Enchanted Forest.

IMG.jpgIMG_2.jpg IMG_5.jpg IMG_6.jpgIMG_7.jpgIMG_8.jpg IMG_3.jpgIMG_10.jpgEvery year my husband and I drive to the Enchanted Forest for the Christmas light display. Although it doesn’t change much from year to year, I still look forward to this tradition (much like that of our river boat cruise). This year, Geoff picked me up from work at 9 pm, then we drove to McDonalds for a quick drive-thru supper. After we ate, we headed to the Forestry Farm to see the light show. With full bellies, a warm truck, and a beautiful display, I was so happy and feeling very festive.

I wish that Christmas could always feel like this. I wish that we could resist the stress that usually surrounds this time of year and instead only feel peaceful, warm, full, and the tiniest bit drowsy. Well, I wish that for myself at least. :-)))

Shopping Date Night.

IMG.jpg IMG_2.jpg IMG_3.jpgIMG_4.jpg IMG_5.jpgIMG_6.jpgIMG_1.jpgIMG_8.jpgIMG_9.jpg IMG_10.jpg IMG_11.jpg IMG_10.jpgSo it’s officially cold here in Canada. Not just a little chilly, but extremely frigid. I find it hard to get motivated to go out at night and get the last few items that we need before Christmas. This particular night that we went, it was -33°C/-27°F with the windchill! However, my husband and I were not going to let a little cold get in our way of our shopping date night.

We ended up going to three our favourite haunts to get supplies for blogging, crafting, and wrapping presents. By the end of our excursion, we were walking icicles. We made one more stop to pick up a movie, then came back to our cozy little home to curl up and watch it. At the end of the day, I really don’t mind how low the temperature is, as long as I am contented and warm and inside with my family. :-)))
