we’re moving on west

Well, we’re not moving yet!

If you have been following Hello, Scarlett Blog for awhile, you might have noticed our frequent shopping trips to Edmonton, Alberta. Here are a few blog posts about the River City: going to, a video, Instagram photos, clothing shoot, getting Holly, and countless purchases from the city, seen here, here, and here

I think that our love for Edmonton is rooted in the fact that my husband and I used to live there. Five years ago, we moved from Saskatchewan to Alberta so that Geoffrey could go to school. It was a mere month into our marriage, I had just received my university degree, Geoff was finishing his degree online while starting college for a different career, and we owned a condominium but were renting it out from afar. It was all too much, too soon. After five months of not finding a job where I could apply my university skills, I let the stress get the best of me. I moved back to Saskatchewan and into our condo, and landed an amazing job at the public library. Geoffrey ended up moving back a year later. He had finished his university degree but not his college diploma. We both felt defeated, but for the next few years continually talked about moving back once we were more stable. We wanted to have money saved up, experience under our belts, and be a few years into marriage. Edmonton has always been our next goal.

In May 2015, I quit my job at the library to focus on my store. After four years, I felt as if I wasn’t getting further ahead, and knew that I wanted to work there as a Librarian and not just as a Library Assistant. One month later I got pregnant, and two months after that Geoffrey began a ten month trades program in the city. Because there are more job opportunities in a city of 1 million (as opposed to 300,000) and there is a master’s program for library science there as well, we finally feel prepared to take that jump and return to a city that we found so challenging five years ago. I also feel as if it is a fresh start with having a baby. Inevitably, we have concluded that Edmonton fits into our life goals more so than our current residence in Saskatchewan.

All of that being said, we have to wait approximately seven months or more before we can move. By then, our baby will be here, hopefully happy and healthy, and my husband’s schooling will be completed. So much has to line up before we can actually take the plunge, from housing to education to careers, to name a few. In the end, it may not even happen. However, we’ve waited five years to be in this position. We can certainly wait a few more months.

Here is a video of our latest trip to Edmonton. This time, we shopped for all things baby.
