And another one bites the dust! My husband is officially thirty years old, the same as me. This year, he will become a dad for the first time, finish school and have a new trade under his belt, and finally shave his beard. Just kidding. I don’t think that last one will ever happen.
We celebrated Geoff’s birthday over the course of three evenings, since they’re the only evenings that he has free from work this week. I had asked him if he had wanted a party for such a momentous birthday. He declined, so instead we ended up engaging in a ton of unrelated events. It was not very glamorous, but it was very fun. In essence, it was more our birthday style.
On Saturday evening, Geoff finished work and we went to run errands. The temperature was -22°C without the wind. With the wind, it was -35°C.
We began at the Dollar Store, then I had a delivery, and we had to get a few things at London Drugs. Next we went to Canadian Tire in hopes of finding welding gear that I could purchase for Geoff’s gift. After not finding anything worthwhile, I had a little cry in the store (thanks pregnancy hormones), and we left.
We ended the frigid night with a date at our favourite diner, Pink Cadillacs. With full bellies and uplifted spirits, we finally made it home around 10 pm.
Geoff’s real birthday fell on Tuesday. After picking him up a coffee and donut, the dogs and I met him in town after school. I had to drop off my vehicle to get serviced. From there, we went in his truck and to the vet college for Holly’s meds. Then we drove back home where he opened a plethora of gifts.
We had about twenty minutes to spare before driving back into town to have a movie date. We had a VIP experience and saw The Revenant. It was such an enjoyable adventure. I think we might always have to watch films as VIPs from now on.
Because we didn’t end up spending his birthday with our family, the following night we went to my niece’s skating practice. Geoff played with our niece and nephew at the rink, while I sat and visited with my sister and her other children. Afterwards, we went to her house for cake, where we played with her five kids some more. Then we picked up the dogs and drove back into town to get our vehicle. We stopped at Tim Horton’s for a treat, drove around and talked about our future, then finally called it a night and an end to his birthday celebration.
All in all, I think that he had an enjoyable birthday. I had always pictured our 30th birthdays turning out differently, with parties, alcohol, and the works. However, this last year has been so eventful. With all that lies before us in our immediate future, from babies, to moving provinces, to jobs, to master’s programs, I think that this coming year will be even more lively. I hope that you will all stick around for the ride.
