my pre-birthday museum outing

western-development-museum-7western-development-museum-1My birthday falls on Wednesday this year. Rather than celebrating it on the actual day (November 23), we decided to spend one day every weekend this month going out and doing something as a family.

western-development-museum-4Last weekend, we made our annual trip to the Western Development Museum. The fact that the temperature was 16°C that day is absolutely mind blowing! It’s usually a frigid -26°C. We didn’t even wear jackets. That’s certainly a present in itself.

western-development-museum-3western-development-museum-2Boomtown is a permanent exhibit in the WDM that represents what the city of Saskatoon looked like in 1910. Walking through it feels like a true town from the Old West. I love being immersed in environments like that. To say that it’s fun is an understatement. It’s so much more than that!

western-development-museum-5There are also many other exhibits that include Winning the Prairie Gamble, the Transportation Gallery, and the Eaton’s Once Upon a Christmas holiday exhibit.

western-development-museum-9western-development-museum-6This was Remy’s first time at the WDM, and we couldn’t have asked for a better-behaved baby. She sat quietly in her stroller for over two hours as we pushed her around. She took in the sites with those big, blue eyes of hers. It wasn’t until the very end when we reached the vintage car section that she wanted out. So we lifted her up and she cooed, threw herself upside down, and did the running man for the rest of our visit. She was so happy. Then on the way home she slept.

western-development-museum-13Going there this year made it apparent just how much our lives have changed over the last few years. Geoffrey and I started going to the museum when we were dating, then again when we were married, then when I was pregnant, and now, with a baby.

western-development-museum-12This has been the best birthday ever so far, and my birthday isn’t even here yet.

  1. Happy birthday! I love the WDM. It’s been about 5 years since I was there last, but I hope to get back to S’toon and go again!
