Choosing family outfits for Remy’s Moonrise Kingdom birthday party has not been easy. I have been going back and forth on what we should wear. Should we dress up as the characters in the film? Geoffrey would be in a khaki scout costume, me in a schoolgirl outfit, and Remy in an island police uniform.

Or should we wear our regular clothes, but stick to the warmer tones that are complementary to the film’s vintage colour palette? Outfits that are also wilderness-inspired? In the end, I decided to go with the latter.

Remy is wearing her checked dress from Zara, black tights from Carter’s, and Elk moccasins from Minimoc. I am wearing a brown romper from Threadsence and black tights. Geoffrey has on a plaid shirt and Lucky Brand jeans.

Because we are hiring a photographer, I wanted the photographs to be reminiscent of a themed birthday and not a Halloween party. While I still may alter our outfits before the big day, these are very similar to what we will be wearing as a family.

Less than one week to go! Happy Family Day, Canadians.
