in december

Processed with VSCOcam with c1 presetI was initially planning on having a wrap-up for all of 2015 and the month of December. Then I became too tired and honestly a little apprehensive at the thought of recapping up an entire year. What a year it had been! For those of you who came along for the ride, I really appreciate it. Also, you were there. You know what happened. So here I begin with the intentions of merely writing a monthly summary post, but the uncertainty of what it will end up as.

Processed with VSCOcam with a6 presetDecember started off as an unseasonably warm month, and stayed that way for nearly three weeks. We took advantage of this heatwave in the form of multiple walks throughout the day.

Third Trimester Photography - 3At the beginning of the month, I was 26 weeks pregnant. By the end, I was one day shy of 31 weeks.

Burlap Tree Ornaments - 5Rustic Christmas Candle DIY - 6Of course, December also meant that Christmas was afoot. I kicked off the month with a rustic candle tutorial. Next, I had a DIY for burlap tree ornaments. I also listed my five best holiday movies. Here were a couple of handmade gift ideas. Finally, this year’s card.

Paper Boat Wood Teething Ring - 1Speaking of gifts and good cheer, a giveaway was featured on the blog for the cutest teething/stroller toy. I just love mine to bits, and can’t wait until our baby gets to play with it!

vsco-photo-3We also found a bit of free time to attend a local craft sale during December. Luckily, we were able to sneak in at least one movie! We saw Spectre.

il_fullxfull.843815624_pjpwI also dedicated a few posts to fashion. The first one was a look into our little one’s dresser. The second was my newest and most favourite clogs to date. Lastly, I had my dream Christmas outfit. That is, if I had loads of money and my old body back.

Ok, now for 2015.

IMG_1531My most popular post was undoubtedly when The Little Barn was featured on A Beautiful Mess. You can relive the video tour here. That post was viewed over 43,000 times.

PalletDogBed5.jpgIn second place was this tutorial on making a dog bed out of pallet wood. Thank you to my husband for that! It remains my most popular pin on Pinterest.

AloeVera1Coming in third place is this explanation on propagating plant leaves. Although it has worked for other succulents, I still need to find a better method for Aloe Vera specifically. Any suggestions?

The United States - Road Trip 64The United States - Road Trip 75The United States - Road Trip 32The most commented on post, and probably my most treasured event of the year (aside from the whole baby thing), was our trip to the States. In fact, I wrote about it half a dozen times! I also shared many photos and a video from our vacation. If only we had the time and resources to take similar road trips a couple of times a year.

MovingDay21In 2015 I had also left my job after four years, gotten pregnant, moved my store, moved our home, and a multitude of other events that impacted me in a huge way. It was a year unlike any other, as I’m sure 2016 will be.

Processed with VSCOcam with a6 presetAll the best in the new year, and thank you from the bottom (to the top) of my heart for your support. You are all amazing!

happy new year

NewYears2016“I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes.

Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You’re doing things you’ve never done before, and more importantly, you’re Doing Something.

So that’s my wish for you, and all of us, and my wish for myself. Make New Mistakes. Make glorious, amazing mistakes. Make mistakes nobody’s ever made before. Don’t freeze, don’t stop, don’t worry that it isn’t good enough, or it isn’t perfect, whatever it is: art, or love, or work or family or life.

Whatever it is you’re scared of doing, Do it.

Make your mistakes, next year and forever.”

– Neil Gaiman

Happy New Year!

in january

Processed with VSCOcam with a5 presetHellooooo February! It’s great to see your smiling face. I am so stoked that January has come to a conclusion, because it was such a long and stressful month on our end. If you guys liked it, I’m totally fine with that! I won’t hold it against you. :-)))

Screen Shot 2015-01-05 at 10.33.14 AMSo what happened in the coldest month of the year? Well to begin, we have been moving into The Little Barn over the last few weeks. It’s been slow, rough, and just not a fun experience in the least bit.

GlitterBanner5Geoffrey celebrated his birthday on the 19th. That was probably one of the only good things to come out of January.

HomeHarvest2Actually, that was a lie. I found out that I am now a regular contributor for another magazine. This one is called Home & Harvest and is published monthly in the States!

ButterTarts3I also managed to produce five wonderful DIYs! Two were for eating (one fruity and one chocolate treat), one other for sleeping, the other for making, and the last for displaying. The banner actually turned out better than I could have hoped for, and I am so excited to create more!

1.jpgJanuary started off extremely slow in regards to sales in the Potomac Trading Post, Ltd. store. However, I read that it’s actually the worst month for all retail stores, given that customers are still recovering from their Christmas expenditures. Towards the second half of the month, it began to pick up. Now I’m right back on track with sales goals! Whew!

WW6-1Speaking of clothes, I had two different OOTD posts. One was to ring in the New Year, and the other showcasing my favourite, and oldest, go-to dress. The latter spawned yet another life lesson from my mum, AKA Night Owl. I also hinted to what was in the store, here.

p03nS9t3pHiDUretGYdA3qKeixjWe went and saw The Imitation Game and Gone Girl in the theatres. I didn’t blog about that, but both are worth noting!

Crates6Last but not least, I introduced a new series based on the idea of the Home that will begin next month! If you’re interested in taking part, there are still a few spots remaining!

Processed with VSCOcam with a5 presetFebruary’s going to be a fun and short month. I can feel it!
