Just look at this Terrarium Side Table DIY project that was featured on A Beautiful Mess a few weeks ago. Is it not a must-have for all plant lovers alike? Originally inspired from this book, Emma chose to make one and put her own spin on it. I think that it turned out beautifully!

in june

Screen Shot 2015-06-30 at 1.02.25 PMJune was an incredibly eventful month; probably the most eventful of the entire year thus far. So what happened? Here are my video summaries of all of the celebrations.

At the beginning of the month, my husband and I celebrated our fifth wedding anniversary. I was given a new ring, and we relived the morning that we eloped by taking photographs at the same locations as we did on our wedding day. It was an emotional day, to look back at how our lives have changed over the last five years. Yet, we are in a better place today than ever before. Really, it was bittersweet.

After our trip down memory lane, my mum and I physically took a trip to British Columbia, Canada. At the time, I wasn’t feeling too thrilled about it, only because I was being a selfish daughter and wasn’t wanting her to move away from me. However, upon returning, I realized just how much she loves and looks forward to living in her new home. There was no way I could hold that against her, and so now I do honestly feel excited for her to begin a new adventure. My mum’s letter to my sister and I only made my feelings regarding her decision even stronger.

Another huge and important event that took place this month was the fact that our home was featured on A Beautiful Mess! I am still in awe of that occurrence, and am so excited at all of the new followers that I have gained and people who I have met as a result. Talk about an eventful month.

I also mentioned some great movies that were not to be missed. Have you seen any of these films yet?

Screen Shot 2015-06-30 at 1.02.59 PMThat is only a snippet of what occurred in June! I hope that you all had an enjoyable month as well. Happy Canada Day, fellow Canadians!

a beautiful mess : video home tour

IMG_1531Hello, friends! Remember on Friday when I said that I had a massive blogging surprise for you all? Well our home is going to be featured on A Beautiful Mess

Honestly guys, this website is the reason why I first began blogging. Before hearing about it nearly three years ago, I was obsessed with the page Apartment Therapy. I loved that they would publish posts a few times a day, and loved being exposed to different homes from across the world. Yet, I longed for more. I wanted more DIYs and people that I could look up to. My wishes came to fruition when one day AT posted a craft tutorial from A Beautiful Mess. I clicked on the link, not knowing what to expect. My life was literally changed after that. I instantly fell in love with the pretty and whimsical nature of ABM, and adored Elsie and Emma. A few months later, I created my first blog, which was wholly inspired by all things beautiful and messy.

I am so incredibly lucky to be on their website for their own ‘At Home With’ series. In honour of this achievement, I’ve created my first video tour of our new and reclaimed home. If you would like past posts on all of the details and DIYs that went into The Little Barn, please click here.

This is one goal in regards to blogging that I can now cross off my bucket list. I hope that my own readers are just as excited as I am. For those of you who are here from A Beautiful Mess, welcome! Please say hello, and stay awhile.

make your own: glitter banner

GlitterBanner8The idea for a glitter banner stemmed from a DIY that I saw on A Beautiful Mess. As soon as I came across this easy tutorial, I knew that I was going to make my own version of it. I had plans to do one for Christmas, but given that it very quickly became a very hectic season, I had to scrap it and save it for another day. Although it’s not a very manly project, I decided to create a glitter banner for Geoffrey’s birthday. I loved the results so much that I plan on displaying it year-round in The Little Barn!

This is what you’ll need to make your own banner:

GlitterBanner1Glitter foam sheet (2)
Suede lace
Scissors
Printer
Printer paper
X-acto knife
Crazy glue
Pen
Cardboard

Steps:

GlitterBanner31. Using your computer and printer, create the word of your choice on a Word Document or any free stencil software in large letters. Print. Cut out each individual letter. Set aside.

2. Lay out the glitter foam sheets so that the glitter sides are facedown. Place each letter on the back of the foam sheet, in the reverse direction. (I initially forgot to do this, and began to trace them right side up.) Then trace the letters onto the back of the glitter sheets.

3. After all of the letters are traced, begin to cut them out using an X-acto knife. Be sure to place a piece of cardboard under the sheets to avoid cutting your crafting surface.

GlitterBanner44. Once the letters have been cut out of the foam sheets, place them face down. Spell out the word that you are creating in reverse, glitter side down. Take the suede lace and string it along the top of each letter. Glue it to the back of the letter with the crazy glue.

GlitterBanner65. Once the glitter banner is dry, the last step is to hang it! Make sure to place it front and centre for all to enjoy.

GlitterBanner7GlitterBanner5Have a great day!
