wilder’s baptism

Two Sundays ago, Wilder was baptized into the Roman Catholic church.

We spent the morning getting ready at home. I set out the food that I had spent weeks preparing. I made an appetizer tray, bread, macaroni salad for the adults, slow cooker mac and cheese for the kids, banana bread, cookies, and strawberry crumb muffins (TBA).

Remy and I had also created origami crosses the day before. After she painted them, I hung them on the wall.

The decorations- which included a tablecloth, dinner plates, utensils, religious garland, and cups- were all purchased from Party City in Saskatoon, SK. I did what I could to show our faith and love for our son!

We drove into the city and met my husband’s family for mass. Afterwards, my sister and her family and my step-dad showed up. I fed and changed Wilder into his outfit, and he, along with nine other babies, were baptized. It only took 30 minutes!

The baptism went very quickly and very smoothly as well. We had a reading a few words from our kind and humorous priest. Wilder was entertained by everything around him. He got oil on his chest and the most beautiful smelling oil on his head. He didn’t cry. Remy was her usual bratty self and hopped around entertaining everyone. She even tried blowing out the baptismal candles as they were being lit and made everyone crack up.

Geoff’s parents served as Wilder’s godparents. Afterwards, we were given a candle, certificate, and scarf. Then we left and everyone came out to our new home on our acreage. We had an early supper and the kids ran around inside and outside. It was just a lovely, lovely day. Most importantly, Wilder is now a child of God. Alleluia! Alleluia!

five months old

Wilder is now five months old! This last month was one of much growth and change.

He has now found his voice. He squeals when he is happy, and yells at us when he doesn’t like something (usually being in one position for too long). He is also starting to imitate our sounds.

He is the picture of literal joy when he hears or sees Remy. He likes to sit or stand. He now wiggles out of everything if he is not strapped in. He is much more energetic than before. We have started to call him Bamm-Bamm because he is so lively with his arms.

Wilder is on the tail end of his first sleep regression, just in time for the beginning stages of teething. I remember this phase well with Remy. It threw me for a loop with her, but I feel like it’s not really a big deal with the second child. Maybe because I know what to expect?

He is still not into books and music like she was at this age. He much rather prefers to just contently watch us all. He is so good!

Only one more month until Wilder begins solids. Time, where have you gone?

remy’s birthday photography

Nearly one month ago, we celebrated Remy turning three. I decided that I wanted to throw her a big party this year, given that last year’s party didn’t go as planned. I had originally booked a room at an indoor playground for her second birthday, but my side of the family were fighting with one another and were threatening not to come in order to avoid certain relatives, so I had to cancel it all to make them happy. In the end, it was such a chaotic and depressing birthday and I didn’t want that to be the case again this year. Hence a party for my best gal at one of our favourite places- the Western Development Museum.

The museum was so quiet that morning. I think there were only a few families besides our big group. We spent almost two hours running around. The kids went in and out of buildings, played on the old cars, with trains, and everything else that you could think of. When Remy wasn’t holding hands with her cousins or friend, she was getting held or chasing someone. She loved the attention and everyone there.

I had rented the Palace Theatre for the morning of March 2nd. That included a large room on the second floor, and entire balcony, and a few other little rooms that were up there. I also paid for a catered lunch. Honestly, it was the best and easiest thing ever. It was such a beautiful setting and everyone raved about the food. We had soup, wraps, sandwiches, cheese, pickles, pie, coffee, tea, juice, and more. It was very reasonably priced as well. I can’t wait to have more events there.

This and her Moonrise Kingdom party have been two of my greatest days ever. What a way to celebrate the previous year, as well as turning another year older. I love celebrating her, and getting friends and family together to do so as well. If only people could get along for the sake of a child. Hopefully in time everyone can happily coexist with one another. That would be wonderful.

four months old

Our happy, happy boy is four months old!

Honestly, I feel like this age is a milestone in itself. This is usually when:

– they have their first sleep regression
– they have a dip in hormone levels (or so I read)
– they receive their second immunizations
– they have another check-up appointment

So much is going on in their little lives! It’s no wonder that we have noticed a change in Wilder as well. He definitely likes to be awake more, and only takes three very short naps a day. (I think he will be down to two longer ones soon.) He loves to hold his head up all day long and we are working on getting him to sit on his own and stand more often. He loves meeting new people, but also adores his family. He is starting to not like the car seat as much. He loves walks and is quite content outside.

Over this last month, we ended up moving into a new home. We did the same thing with Remy when she was this exact age! I think that most would agree that moving with an infant is never easy, but Wilder did not make it difficult in the slightest. It only meant that unpacking took a bit longer than usual.

I also have decided to slowly introduce dairy back into my diet. I had cut it out as soon as I had Wilder in the event that it would upset his system much like it did Remy’s when she was a baby. I had been craving it so much, and having already eliminated eggs, nuts, caffeine, and spices (those I did notice bothered him), I thought that trying dairy couldn’t hurt. After a few days, I did not notice any fussiness, so now I can safely consume it. Yum!

Sleep, new house, needles, diet … not much change from three to four months. Right? ;-)))

three months old

Our beautiful baby Wilder turned three months old a few days ago.

Last month, I shared on Instagram that he loves his sister, car seat, baths, holding his head up, playing peek-a-boo, and his sister. Lately, he is also really loving his play gym that we bought from IKEA. He can hold onto toys and bring them to his mouth to chew on, and loves to talk when he is happy and content. He also thinks it is hilarious when you stick out your tongue.

Wilder weighs around 14 pounds and is mostly in 3-6 month clothing. His hair is turning from dark brown to blonde, and he has the curliest eyelashes. He is such a smiley, happy, easy, sweet, and loving boy.

We love our rainbow baby so much! Happy three months, mister.
