what i wore: blue swan

WW7-3Hello, friends! Can you believe that there are only two days left in the month of January? Where did the time go?!

WW7-2This outfit post today is featuring one of my most treasured dresses, and one that I have worn before in a post. However, given that it was over a year and a half ago, my hair was short, blonde, and shaved on one side. Needless to say that I looked like a man in drag. While the fashion post can be found if you were to do some digging, I’m not feeling overly zealous to add a link for you today. Hey, I can’t be expected to do all the work around here. ;-)))

WW7-1This dress is one that I often wear to work, and for special occasions. I bought it as a ballet dress, and it’s sheer overlay with asymmetrical hem gives it such a distinctive and feminine look. It’s incredibly soft, and flows like a dream. I feel like a ballerina when I wear it, and so, probably to the annoyance of many, I wear it often.

In the words of Nina from one of my favourite films, Black Swan, “It was perfect.”

it doesn’t matter what you wear … there’ll be dancing in the street

IMG_1.jpg IMG_2.jpgIMG_3.jpg IMG_4.jpgIMG_5.jpg IMG_6.jpgIMG_7.jpg IMG_8.jpgThere are certain items of clothing that will always make certain girls feel a certain way. I can only describe that feeling as a sort of blissful transcendence, that nothing will make you feel more like your true self than when you are wearing that particular item. It can be anything from riding pants, to vintage shoes, to a little black dress. A tutu is that magical item for me.

Tutus are my kryptonite. Whether I see a skirt or a dress that is made up mostly of tulle or crinoline, I feel as if I must own it. Once I wear it, I only want to dance, dance, dance. I want to dance as if no one is watching, and not stop until I am completely exhausted. I want to run and hug everyone that I see because I feel so happy and comfortable when I am in one. I want to pair it with leggings and my prettiest coat, and show it off to the world. I would wear a tutu everyday if it were socially acceptable. I believe that I will always be a closeted ballerina, and I am O.K. with that.

Tell me, what is your favourite article of clothing?

what i bought.

i have recently discovered my new favourite ebay store! tambukiki!!

my most common search terms in ebay include “bodysuit,” “ballet,” and “wildfox.” when i typed in “ballet” and limited to dresses in my size, i repeatedly saw results for one store in particular. being the curious cat that i am, i clicked on the link to take me to tambukiki. i was instantly taken aback by their beautiful garments, how they were unique without being too garish, and their reasonable prices. i felt as if i had discovered a gold mine! not only that, the sellers were quick to ship the items, and even quicker to leave wonderful feedback. i guarantee that i will be shopping from them again and again.

deer motif bodysuit by wildfox.

IMG_3.jpg

i am starting this week with a confession. my love for bodysuits is boundless. i could literally wear one 24/7 and i would be the world’s most comfortable and happiest girl. because most of my dresses are sleeveless, i find that having on one of these items is the most practical thing to do! they hug your figure like a dream, they come in every color and almost any material, and you can usually get away with not wearing any *ahem* undergarments. there, i said it. :-)

i must also mention that wildfox is quickly becoming one of my favorite clothing brands. did you know that i sell wildfox clothes at the hello scarlett store? be sure to have a look!

by the way, i chose this deer motif because today is thanksgiving in canada and it was the closest thing that i had to a turkey. they are both animals after all … ;-)))

did you ever have one of those days where nothing (and i mean nothing) seems to go your way? today was that sort of day for me. from the moment that i woke up, until now, i felt as if luck was just not on my side. in fact, i am pretty sure that lady luck was having a big ol’ laugh at me!!!

venting aside, the only thing that is keeping me going is looking at the before and after photos of this dress. what began as one of my favorite, ballerina-inspired items from uo, was after two years turned into a more modern dress style. modern for me, at least. :-)))

IMG_2-3

i began by removing the arms, and sewing on lovely, black, semi-sheer fabric in their place. then i used the same fabric to add … you guessed it! a hello scarlett bow, of course!

IMG_4.jpg

no dress of mine is complete without one. ;-)

IMG_1.jpg IMG_2.jpg

then *g* and i had a photo shoot late in the evening, on an extremely windy night, after work, and after i changed in our truck. also, the power was out. even though i am wearing a smile in addition to my newest diy, it was pretty chaotic. however, the photos did turn out, so i was a happy girl in the end.

IMG_6-7

well, they turned out for the most part. the bow was actually tucked into my dress the whole time we photographed it! yet, given the day that i had, i could not expect the outcome to have been any different.

c’est la vie, right?
