what i bought // minkpink and vintage rocking horses

WIB 1-1I am an avid supporter of shopping online. I even do my part to contribute to this new age phenomena. Gone are the days when you have to physically walk into a store to find some really great items. There are quite literally millions of websites that will allow you to shop their inventory without lifting so much as a finger. Ok, so maybe you will have to move just one, but not more than that.

One of my favourite clothing stores in the province, Cade Style Lounge, is located 2.5 hours away from where I live. I follow their Instagram page as a way to be able to shop and support them since they, too, are a small business. Plus they have some really cool stuff. I previously dedicated an entire post to a purse that I bought from Cade. I still wear it, and only it.

WIB 1-6Last week I ended up seeing a shirt that I liked on their Instagram page. I contacted them through direct message, and after it was all said and done, I ended up getting:

1. Vintage Rocking Horse necklace

2. MINKPINK crop top

3. Gentle Fawn leggings

4. Cade bracelet (free)

Obviously, the many advances in technology make our lives so much simpler. They also allow small businesses to increase their traffic by reaching further audiences, which consequently increases their sales. As an owner of a retail store, I know that I would never be able to operate successfully without my presence on these sites, namely Instagram. While many may disagree with my proclamations on the benefits of social media platforms, I personally think that the strengths outweigh the negative aspects. At least in regards to local shops. I can only hope that these advances will persist. Until then, I will not only continue promoting my store, Potomac Trading Post, Ltd., but will also be an avid supporter of other independent shops. I hope that you will too!

Have the best weekend! See you on Monday.

bang bang (my baby shot me down)

2.jpgLast year I made the confession that I am not a purse person. I have to make a point of buying a new bag once a year. If not, I will happily use the same one until it falls to bits and pieces. This I’ve done before.

If you have already read the previous post, then you will also know that I finally visited the most amazing clothing store that I discovered through Instagram. One of my many purchases from that store was, you guessed it, a new purse! This one is by the brand Liebeskind, which literally translates to “child of love.” Based on my German background, the name, the colour (Watermelon), and its overall uniqueness were the biggest reasons why I went ahead and bought it. Plus it’s so soft! Also, the sale price did help.

3.jpg1.jpgSo here it is, my Bonnie Vintage Leather Handbag! I hope that you get the significance of this title now that you know the name of the bag.

4.jpgIt really is the cutest little purse. If you have not yet owned anything by Liebeskind, you must go track it down and get all touchy-feely with their items! You will never be the same.  In a good way.

Do you remember a few weeks ago when I mentioned that my husband and I took a spontaneous road trip? It was honestly such a short but an incredibly productive mini-vacation. We seem to be good at those! After working 8 hours on a Saturday, Geoffrey picked me up from work and along with Truman we headed 2.5 hours away to stay the night in Regina, SK. We originally went to purchase tires for one of our vehicles, but ended up not getting them. Instead, on Sunday I was able to go to an amazing clothing store called Cade Style Lounge that I have been following on Instagram for months, visited Chapters book store, ate a lot of disgusting fast food, and went antique shopping. Cade doubles as a new and vintage clothing shop with the best brand names. WILDFOX, Cheap Monday, Rails, Free People, Jeffrey Campbell, Elizabeth & James, and more! I discovered Cade after their vintage supplier The Dress Form began following me on Instagram. I just find it so amazing what discoveries you are able to find on social media! I always read about people forming friendships through Instagram and meeting up in person, but I’ve never done it myself. Going to Cade and talking with the employees is the closest that I’ve come to doing so. Have any of you made any real life connections through social media?

During that trip, I had also spent a good hour in Chapters rifling through interior decorating books. I went in there thinking that I would be coming away with hundreds of dollars of new material, but it seemed like I would only like a few pictures out of the few hundred that were in these books. I was shocked! I started panicking only because I am in need of finding inspiration for our new home. Then I thought, ‘hold on, maybe it’s a good thing that my style is not in any one book. That way, what I do create, will be completely independent and original.’ Who knows, maybe one day I’ll be able to create a book on The Little Barn’s interior. ;-)))
