zara haul

With small children, the turn of the season usually means an almost entirely new wardrobe. Remy is nowhere near fitting into last year’s spring and summer clothes. At age 2 and wearing 3T, I didn’t have one item of clothing that she could wear on days that were above 0!

This year, I decided to not only buy a few pieces from Zara, but to buy her entire wardrobe from there. I wasn’t feeling very well when she needed clothes for warmer weather, and really didn’t feel like zipping around the city in search of cute wears. Zara had free expedited shipping (and free returns), so I really couldn’t say no to that!

Here are some of Remy’s new clothes:

1. Embroidered Dungarees

2. Jersey Two Piece Set

3. Anchor Striped Swimsuit

4. Smiley Face Parka

5. Checked Jumpsuit

6. Floral Jumpsuit

7. T-shirt with Ruffles

8. Ruffled Trousers

9. Jacquard Dress

10. Triangle Print Leggings

11. Linen Bermuda Shorts

12. Frilled Sleeve Dress

13. Leather Boots (I also bought a checked shoe- as seen in the photos- but cannot find them on the website! These I purchased later, and Remy likes them a lot more.)

What are your favourite stores to shop at for children’s items?

zara baby haul

I think that I mentioned this before, but Remy has always been bang on with clothing sizes. When she was less than 3 months, she was in newborn and then 0-3 month clothing. As a 4 month old, she was wearing 3-6 month clothes, at 7 months she was in 6-12, and so on. Right around her one year birthday, she had outgrown all of her clothes. She desperately needed a new wardrobe, so I logged on to one of my favourite websites for baby clothes; Zara.

I was fortunate in that ordering her so many pieces aligned with spring being just around the corner. This meant that I could finally pick out lighter clothes. Hello, short sleeves, shorts, and spring jackets!

What Remy ended up getting was the Embroidered T-Shirt, the Sequinned Balloons T-Shirt, the Watercolour Striped T-Shirt (which is actually for boys, but is just so cute), the Loose-Fit Jumpsuit, the Openwork Bermuda Shorts, the Extra Long Leggings (again for boys), and the Hooded Trench Coat which I didn’t take a photo of but is to die for!

She looks so adorable in all of her clothes. Zara also fits wide, which is great for our little chubbins! With only $5 shipping, it is always my go-to store.

fin & vince

fin-vince-13One night a few months ago, Remy was up with the flu. Too worried to sleep, I laid beside her awake for most of the night. To pass the time, I was looking up children’s clothing companies on Instagram. Even though it was a horrible night, I ended up coming across the most beautiful company that makes clothes for kids. They are are called Fin & Vince.

fin-vince-15Fin & Vince’s slogan is “kidswear for the imaginative.” I just love that. To me, the pieces are retro-inspired but wholly practical. The fabrics are soft and the designs are unique. I also love that most of the pieces can be worn for either boys or girls. I don’t like dressing Remy in overly girlie clothes, and I often shop in the boy section for her pieces. This is where the gender-neutral items are.

fin-vince-12I just adore the look of rompers. I often wear them, and I love how they look on Remy. I prefer them over dresses, mostly due to mobility reasons. While dresses are lovely, they are not practical when it comes to crawling. They often get tangled under her knees, restricting her forward movements. I end up having to tuck them into her tights. With rompers, there’s no worry about the fabric becoming tangled. You also don’t have to worry about tights, or pairing a top with bottoms. It’s all one piece. They’re perfect.

fin-vince-14I bought Remy the Stork Romper because I liked the pattern. The pockets are a great feature as well.

fin-vince-11I purchased the Striped Baby Romper for her because of the pattern. Look at it. Isn’t it the cutest thing ever?

fin-vince-10I think that from now on, I will always order from Fin & Vince. However, it will only be a few items at a time due to their prices. It’s a little expensive, but it’s so worth it!

1st birthday: wilderness outfits

mk-outfits-5-version-2Choosing family outfits for Remy’s Moonrise Kingdom birthday party has not been easy. I have been going back and forth on what we should wear. Should we dress up as the characters in the film? Geoffrey would be in a khaki scout costume, me in a schoolgirl outfit, and Remy in an island police uniform.

Or should we wear our regular clothes, but stick to the warmer tones that are complementary to the film’s vintage colour palette? Outfits that are also wilderness-inspired? In the end, I decided to go with the latter.

mk-outfits-4Remy is wearing her checked dress from Zara, black tights from Carter’s, and Elk moccasins from Minimoc. I am wearing a brown romper from Threadsence and black tights. Geoffrey has on a plaid shirt and Lucky Brand jeans.

Because we are hiring a photographer, I wanted the photographs to be reminiscent of a themed birthday and not a Halloween party. While I still may alter our outfits before the big day, these are very similar to what we will be wearing as a family.

Less than one week to go! Happy Family Day, Canadians.

mommy and me: christmas ootd

Processed with VSCO with a4 presetLast year, I compiled a Christmas outfit list that I desperately wanted to buy and wear. This year, I put together an actual outfit that I will be wearing.

This OOTD is both practical and coordinated with my littlest. My dress was purchased from Choies. While light grey definitely doesn’t hide any flaws, I just adore the colour.

Remy’s cute onesie was actually purchased from the grocery store. It has a wonderful sparkle to it that makes it look dressier than a regular onesie. Her thick tights are from The Children’s Place.

Processed with VSCO with a4 presetI don’t always match my daughter like this. However, it’s Christmas, and if ugly sweaters are fashionable, then so are matching outfits. At least in my world.

See you next week!
