1st birthday: activity books (diy)

Processed with VSCO with a4 presetLast week, I explained how I wanted to create a photo booth for Remy’s upcoming party as entertainment for the adults. Today, I’m going to show you what I made to ensure the children at the party wouldn’t get bored either. Also, let’s face it, adults can have fun with this DIY as well!

screen-shot-2017-02-07-at-11-15-48-amscreen-shot-2017-02-07-at-11-15-29-amI created these activity books in Microsoft Word. After going online and finding clip art from the film Moonrise Kingdom, I saved the images that I thought would look best. I also made sure that they were in black and white, which makes colouring them in much easier. Then I opened a Word document, flipped the direction of the page to a landscape rather than a portrait, then added the images.

screen-shot-2017-02-07-at-11-15-15-amI created the first and last page from scratch. I chose a similar font to what is seen on the movie poster, and made a flag with the number 55 on it. On the back, I put the hashtag that I am hoping people will use for the party.

Processed with VSCO with a4 presetThese activity books were quite simple to make, and only took the better part of the morning to design, print, and staple them together. I’m going to put them in a crate on a table at the party, and put a mason jar of crayons beside them. I know that my nieces are obsessed with colouring, so I think that they will go over well with the older children there.

Happy Monday, all!

in october

Screen Shot 2015-10-29 at 9.54.13 AMThe month of October came and went so quickly that I almost can’t believe that it was even here. These are some of the things that we got up to during that busy time.

Beard Oil DIY - 9Did you happen to see my do-it-yourself posts? First, I featured an easy beard oil tutorial. Then I had a duo candy and candle pumpkin holder, just in time for Halloween.

il_fullxfull.735150734_32zlI had several fashion posts, from a cropped jacket restyle, to a movie date outfit, to my favourite baby finds on Etsy.

Pregnancy Pillow - 3Speaking of babies, I shared my best purchase thus far, and celebrated being 20 weeks along!

Movie Date OOTD - 10Surprisingly, we only went to one film last month! However, we did watch several online, and I discussed the scariest ones here.

IMG_2740Wren from Florian shared her enchanted home tour on the blog.

Edmonton Trip - 13We also took a weekend trip to our dream Canadian city, and one that we hope to move to in just a few short months.

IMG_0887Last but not least, Truman celebrated his birthday at the end of October. He is now 3 years old.

IMG_0793Now that we are already into November, the days are getting shorter and colder. Soon there will be snow, and I will be having my 30th birthday this month. Yikes!

movie date ootd

Movie Date OOTD - 3Movie Date OOTD - 4A few days ago, Geoffrey and I went to see the film The Martian. What a great movie! We were able to catch it in 3D, which only made the experience that much more enjoyable. Coming from someone who is obsessed with thrillers and gory films, this one was equally as intense as watching a horror movie. I had to cover my eyes throughout several parts. It was that good!

Movie Date OOTD - 10Movie Date OOTD - 7Movie Date OOTD - 1Given that it is mid-October and we are still not wearing jackets during the day, I decided to take advantage of this unseasonably warm weather. I am trying to get away with not buying maternity clothes. So far, it has been easy. I have purchased a few new dresses, all one size up from what I normally wear. My leggings still fit, albeit they now rest under my growing stomach rather than comfortably on top. In two more days, I will be at the 20 week mark. I wonder how much longer I can go before I cave and have to start buying maternity outfits?

Movie Date OOTD - 5I purchased my dress from ThreadSence. The wool hat and terrarium necklace are for sale in the store.

in september

Screen Shot 2015-09-30 at 10.57.34 AMWhat. A. Month. It’s not surprising that Kinfolk‘s latest issue also centres around family because in September, I experienced a lot of it.

BabyTo begin (or really end the month), my sister had her fifth child on September 29! This is her second son, and what is even more special is that she now shares a birthday with her newest addition. Can we say best birthday gift ever?

Baby Anouncement 6Speaking of babies, at the beginning of the month I had announced that my husband and I were having our first child! I published its first sonogram photo and explained why I my blog posts were diminishing over the last few months. Later on, I gave you guys a 16 week update on my bundle of joy/morning sickness. Tomorrow I will be 18 weeks!

il_fullxfull.571562058_13vjThere were no shortage of fashion posts in September. I showed you my cute new cellphone case, and published a post on all canine-related Etsy items. Last but not least, you were able to see what is now available in the store.

Golden Hour 3There was some discussion regarding photography. I began by discussing the best time to take photographs outdoors. This is ultimately known as the Golden Hour. I also told you why I prefer film over digital prints in this post here.

Carrot and Potato Soup - 2There were a total of three DIYs this month. I had a recipe for Potato and Carrot Soup, a Side Table Terrarium from A Beautiful Mess, and finally a Polaroid Display

IMG_0090Finally, Geoffrey and I ended up going to three movies in September! First we saw No Escape, which I would give 7/10. The next movie was Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation (8/10). We saved the best for last, and went to The Gift (10/10) on the evening of the lunar eclipse. I highly recommend the latter film!

Jan Lake Lodge - Trip 2Enjoy your weekend, and the first day in October. I personally consider this to be my favourite month of the year!!

five favourite family films

adventures-in-babysitting-remake-coming-to-disney-channelWhen I first began this blog over two years ago, I had a regular series entitled ‘Talkie Thursdays’. It was on this particular day of the week that I would list a movie that I had recently watched, and review it, in the most casual way that I know how. Not being one to recognize all of the hidden messages in films, I tend to have a more love it or hate it attitude.

These are five films that I grew up with, and have recently watched, that centre on fun and families. It can go without saying that I also adore them.

1. Adventures in Babysitting (1987)

2. Mrs. Doubtfire (1993)

3. Beethoven (1992)

4. Uncle Buck (1989)

5. Now and Then (1995)

What are some of your favourite family films?
