porch makeover: peony wallpaper

peony-wallpaper-diy-2When we bought our home, our back porch was designated as the family room. Yet, the set-up that they had felt off. The large living room was nearly empty, and the back family room felt small and disjointed from the rest of the house. I knew immediately that I would be combining our living room with the family room, and that the back room would become a porch.

Once we had moved in and I had turned the space into a porch/dog room/office, my next task was to make the room look nicer. With its grey carpets, low ceilings, and dirty white walls, the room felt more like a messy dorm than a nice area to study and a cozy space for the dogs to hang out. Sure, it didn’t need to be gorgeous. It did need to be different, though. I just didn’t know how.

peony-wallpaper-diy-4One thing about still having to get up in the middle of the night to nurse Remy is that I do all of my best internet searches then. After perusing Pinterest one night, I found the prettiest back porch. The layout from the kitchen to the back living space was almost identical to our home, it was actually quite startling. The only difference was that the Pinterest room had wallpaper. I knew that I was going to have to buy some as well.

peony-wallpaper-diy-6I lucked out by stumbling across nearly identical wallpaper at HomeSense. I didn’t even know that they sold it there, so it was quite a happy accident. It was so easy to install! I’m going to be returning to the store to get more (but different looking) wallpaper for our bathroom. However, one room at a time.

peony-wallpaper-diy-7We really only have a few hours each weekend to do renovations and DIYs, but I’m kind of enjoying slowly setting up the rooms. I definitely feel less pressure to have a perfect home, this time around. I’m thankful for that.

7 months

remy-7-months-3My darling girl is officially seven months old. These are her latest milestones:

– she sits up on her own, unassisted
– she stands on her feet, assisted
– she constantly sticks out her tongue
– she fake coughs
– she is now on solids (and breast milk)

remy-7-months-9remy-7-months-10Where, where, where has the time gone? Oh, how I wish I could shrink her down to a newborn again. I’m so dreading her turning a year old!

remy-7-months-5Happy Monday, everyone!

ootd : all you need is love

IMG_8364Dress: Thrifted ; Top: Walmart ; Clogs: Lotta from Stockholm ; Glasses: Bonlook ; Earrings: Gifted

Lately, I have been publishing outfit posts either on items that I bought, or items that are available in the store. Because it has been awhile since I have shown you lovely readers what I can be found wearing on a day-to-day basis, I knew that it was time to have a blog post on my outfit of the day!

This Beatles-inspired look is combination of new and thrifted items. The shirt, especially, is from a store that I would never normally purchase clothes from, but with the word ‘LOVE’ surrounded in floral and lace, a girl would be crazy to pass it up. ;-)

what i bought // minkpink and vintage rocking horses

WIB 1-1I am an avid supporter of shopping online. I even do my part to contribute to this new age phenomena. Gone are the days when you have to physically walk into a store to find some really great items. There are quite literally millions of websites that will allow you to shop their inventory without lifting so much as a finger. Ok, so maybe you will have to move just one, but not more than that.

One of my favourite clothing stores in the province, Cade Style Lounge, is located 2.5 hours away from where I live. I follow their Instagram page as a way to be able to shop and support them since they, too, are a small business. Plus they have some really cool stuff. I previously dedicated an entire post to a purse that I bought from Cade. I still wear it, and only it.

WIB 1-6Last week I ended up seeing a shirt that I liked on their Instagram page. I contacted them through direct message, and after it was all said and done, I ended up getting:

1. Vintage Rocking Horse necklace

2. MINKPINK crop top

3. Gentle Fawn leggings

4. Cade bracelet (free)

Obviously, the many advances in technology make our lives so much simpler. They also allow small businesses to increase their traffic by reaching further audiences, which consequently increases their sales. As an owner of a retail store, I know that I would never be able to operate successfully without my presence on these sites, namely Instagram. While many may disagree with my proclamations on the benefits of social media platforms, I personally think that the strengths outweigh the negative aspects. At least in regards to local shops. I can only hope that these advances will persist. Until then, I will not only continue promoting my store, Potomac Trading Post, Ltd., but will also be an avid supporter of other independent shops. I hope that you will too!

Have the best weekend! See you on Monday.
