our trip to waskesiu

Hello friends and hello summer!!

Last weekend Geoffrey and I took the children to Prince Albert National Park. Apart from going there last year, it’s something that we used to do every June for our anniversary until we became parents. Once we had Remy, we stopped going camping.

This marks our second summer in a row in Waskesiu, and I think that it’s a tradition that we are going to keep up again. Everyone truly loves it. Last year we went as a family of four in our renovated tent trailer. This year we went as a family of five at stayed at Elk Ridge Lodge. Oh. My. Goodness. It was beyond beautiful. It reminded me more of Colorado than Saskatchewan. The resort has a pool and water slide, two restaurants, spa, a zip line and rock wall, golf course, and more! I can’t ever see us staying anywhere else in the whole of the National Park.

Here are the pictures from our trip. I hope that you like them!

It’s always such an exciting time with the change of a new season. Summer is especially welcome on the prairies as it means there will be no cold or snow for several months. Um, yes please!

What are your plans for this summer? Do you have any vacations booked? Let me know.

And happy belated Father’s Day to the men out there!

forest children

One rainy morning last week, we drove north for just under an hour and went to one of our favourite spots in the forest. There we explored.

I happened to grab my camera on our way out the door, and this is what I documented.

Saskatchewan, you are surprisingly and unassumingly beautiful.

photo of the day

Screen Shot 2016-02-21 at 10.39.27 AM“[My father] harboured a curious theory about how to develop a sense of beauty in the minds of his children. Every time my mother became pregnant, he would wait until the last three months of her pregnancy and then he would announce to her that ‘the glorious walks’ must begin. These glorious walks consisted of him taking her to places of great beauty in the countryside and walking with her for about an hour each day so that she could absorb the splendour of the surroundings. His theory was that if the eye of a pregnant woman was constantly observing the beauty of nature, this beauty would somehow become transmitted to the mind of the unborn baby within her womb and that baby would grow up to be a lover of beautiful things. This was the treatment that all of his children received before they were born.”

my winter maternity photography

Winter Maternity Shoot - 20.1Winter Maternity Shoot - 1Ladies and gentlemen, I am so happy to finally be revealing my maternity pictures to all of you! My inspiration came from these photographs, as well as this photo shoot. I love outdoor photography, and was specifically wanting to convey the beauty of the snow on the landscape. I find that most winter landscapes appear so elegant and fragile, and I wanted that sense of delicacy and to be incorporated into my maternity pictures. I hope that you can also get a sense of that.

outdoor maternity photos

225I have been collecting pins on Pinterest for a few months now of my favourite outdoor maternity photographs. Being a fan of landscape photography, I thought that having a maternity photo shoot outside would look spectacular. There’s just one problem, and that is battling the extreme cold in the middle of winter on the Canadian prairies.

I know that we will get at least one warm day between now and the end of February. Until then, here are the photographs that will be going onto my mood board.
