hello, scarlett giveaway

IMG_9126Hello, friends and happy Friday! I am thrilled to bring to you a giveaway. It’s been a eight months since my last one, so I figured that I am long overdue. The giveaway today is a handmade Travelling Terrarium that comes from the Hello, Scarlett Store. All of the Terrariums in the store come with a unique name that has been based on either its vessel or content. This particular Terrarium is titled, ‘If Nothing Else, At Least I Got A Tin Can.’ Each Terrarium has been carefully filled with rocks, two varying types of moss, one dried flower, and a foreign coin for good luck. These Terrariums are everlasting. They improve the Chi in one’s home. They are the perfect form of greenery for wanderlusts.

a blogger’s dozen: bridget’s chocolate chip cookies (joyfill)

0.jpgHello, friends!

Today I am featuring the second post from A Blogger’s Dozen. This recipe come from a fairly new blog entitled Joyfill. Joyfill is a local Canadian blog that focus on recipes, landscapes, plants, and crafts to come. Created, photographed, and written by Bridget, each post is extremely informative and engaging. Although it’s still early, Bridget has such a unique voice that really captures what life on a farm is all about. I truly trust her recipes, and have confidence in saying that anything she publishes has been perfected and tastes delicious.

If you’re looking for one last gift for Valentine’s Day, this should be it.

2.jpgChocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies:

1 ½  cups flour

1 tsp baking soda

1 ½  tsp salt

1 ½  tsp ground cinnamon

½  tsp nutmeg

1 cup butter at room temperature

1 cup brown sugar

½  cup white sugar

2 large eggs

1 ½  tsp vanilla extract

1 cup chocolate chips

3 ¼  cups oatmeal

1.jpgPre-heat oven to 350°F. Line cookie sheets with parchment paper.

In a medium bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg.

3.jpgIn another bowl, beat the butter, brown sugar, white sugar. Add the eggs. Beat in the vanilla. Slowly add the flour mixture. Stir in chocolate chips and oats.

4.jpgDrop onto cookie sheet, flatten a bit with a fork. Bake for 12-15 mins. Makes about 4 dozen cookies.

5.jpgThis is a fairly new recipe to me. These are dense chewy oatmeal cookies, almost similar to a granola bar. I recently got the recipe from a neighbor who made it with raisins and nuts instead of the chocolate chips. I really enjoyed the hint of cinnamon and nutmeg in the background, especially if you use freshly ground nutmeg, the cookie has more depth and a richer flavor. Please enjoy this recipe and feel free to replace the chocolate chips with raisins, peanut butter chips, butterscotch chips, nuts, or even a combination of your favorites.  And make sure to have a couple cookies with a nice cold glass of milk, some things are classics for a reason!

A Blogger’s Dozen is a new series that was launched in 2014. If you would like to be featured in a post, as well as have free advertisement for that month, please contact Emory at helloscarlettblog@outlook.com. Be sure to send any food-related ideas that you may have. Hello, awesomeness!

Hello 2014, Goodbye 2013

IMG_HSB_1.jpgNow that it’s officially 2014, I feel like I can breathe a little easier. As each year draws to a close, I can’t help but feel as if something major is coming to an end. It’s an unsettling feeling for me, and so when the new year rolls around, it brings much alleviation.

Like every year, 2013 brought many new changes. These are some of them:

PHOTO_1.jpg 10.31.53 PM1. The birth of Hello Scarlett Blog occurred in June. This was my first post.

1400740_739212962760511_911879269_o2. My daily dose of laughter came from Timmy Alvarez’s YouTube channel. Here is one of my favourite videos from Timmy Fell Down The Well.

Screen Shot 2013-12-31 at 10.29.13 AM3. My weekly dose of love and laughter? ‘Girls‘. I cannot wait for Season 3!

on-the-road-dvd-cover-924. The movie that I completely fell in love with was ‘On the Road‘. Consequently, I found a new celebrity crush in Garrett Hedlund.

youth-in-revolt-poster-big5. However, my favourite scene from any movie this year was Michael Cera doing what he does best.

country-god-or-the-girl6. The CD that I had on repeat was K’naan’s ‘Country, God or the Girl‘.

Screen Shot 2013-12-31 at 10.10.13 AM7. HSB can also be found on YouTube! It all began with this Reclaimed Shelf DIY video.

1.jpg8. As for real births, my niece came into this world on 09/09/13. You can visit her birth announcement here.

DSCN55149. For some reason, with a birth usually comes a death. My Baba passed away only 6 days after Emelia was born. Since then, I often mention her in my posts. You can read a bit about the passing of this great woman here.

DSCN496810. As you can see, the blog had many ups and downs over the last 6 months. My most successful DIYs were probably the ‘Lace Flower Pots‘, ‘Bathroom Reno‘, ‘Chicken Wire Cupboard‘, ‘Photography Backdrop Stand‘, ‘Tree Branches‘, and ‘Snow Globe‘.

IMG_10.jpg11. Last month, I was chosen to be featured on one of my favourite blogs! This was a new experience, and one that I hope to repeat often. Starting this year, I am going to be having my own monthly feature. You will have to keep reading HSB daily in order to see when and what it will be.

HW_IMG_1-1.jpg12. As for Geoff and my little pet family, I only grew to love them more with each new day, week, and month. I could write a whole blog post about the many things that we did as a family, but I don’t want to bore all of you! I can only hope that 2014 will bring about more love, and maybe some changes as well.

PHOTO.jpg13. Last but not least, I am so utterly grateful for this new blogging community that I have been introduced to through HSB and WordPress! I love how warm and enthusiastic other bloggers are, and have made so many more friends since I started blogging here in June.

Huzzah to all of you!! Happy New Year and Happy 2014!!

Hello, Mr. Rabbit.

IMG_2.jpg030036I am so thrilled to announce that I am being featured on one of my favourite blogs! Hello, Mr. Rabbit is a fun, beautiful, nostalgic, and inspiring website from the talented mind of Lindsey Louise. I have taken part of Lindsey’s ‘Inspirational Abode’ column, and had so much fun doing it!
