instagram in january

Since this is the first month of 2018, I wanted to make sure that I am up-to-date with my fellow Instagrammers!

I adore the people and connections that I have made through Instagram. I personally feel as if it’s a great community to reach out to others who share similar interests or lifestyles. In my case, that would namely be mamas. I’ve went beyond being social media friends with many of them, and have exchanged phone numbers, addresses, gifts, and more! I used to post daily (who has time for that anymore), but have gone to only posting about twice a week. However, I am more frequent in my stories.

Here are some of my photos this month:

New tattoos.

Church bound, although I’m not sure where Remy is going.

Monkey jumping on the bed.

Happy birthday, dear husband.

January details.

Viewing acreages for sale.

Some stories:

Renovating our kitchen.

Remy helping dada.

Early morning walks.

Do you have Instagram? If so, please leave your handle in the comments. Or you can follow me here, and let me know that you have read my blog. I’ll be sure to follow you back if I’m not already!

harlee’s closet : maxi dress

Harlee's Closet OOTD - 5Today’s lovely outfit post is actually nearly three months overdue. It was originally going to be posted on my due date, with a mention of me taking a break for awhile to await the arrival of my baby. But because I delivered our daughter early, this OOTD post never came to light. Until now, that is.

Harlee's Closet OOTD - 12

Harlee’s Closet is an online store that I follow on Instagram. Their vibe is so hippie, in the chicest way imaginable. When I was eight months pregnant, I was still wearing my regular clothes. My go-to look at the time included maxi dresses, chunky boots, and cute toques. So I ended up ordering two dresses from Harlee’s Closet. This grey dress was one of them, and I lived in it, and this floral crop top until Remy arrived.

Harlee's Closet OOTD - 3Although the weather has warmed up forty degrees, I couldn’t resist blogging about one of my favourite maxi dresses to date. The fabric is so soft, and it is the perfect shade of grey to hide all postpartum flaws. It was also in immaculate condition. It now reminds me of being pregnant, and for that, I will always cherish it.

Harlee's Closet OOTD - 15Be sure to visit their website! Have the most wonderful weekend!

the bird and elephant giveaway

PaperBoatWoodTeethingRing-5Friends! This week I am partnering with the lovely Beth from The Bird And Elephant to bring to you a giveaway. One lucky follower will receive the cutest Paper Boat Wood Teething Ring! Here is a description of the prize:

Paper Boat Wood Teething Ring - 3

“This sensory teething toy makes a crinkle sound loved by most babies encased between a black and white triangle print fabric, with a vibrant violet and turquoise print on the reverse. The fabric boat has a machine drawing of a paper boat, and attached to a maple teething ring with a handmade, fabric tie that is knotted at the ends for a little added fine motor exercise. Babies love the crinkle and they love rolling & pinching things between those chubby little fingers. Between the layers is the ear catching crinkle material and a layer of cotton flannel. The flannel has great wicking properties and adds a bit of weight and stiffness to the boat. A great sensory stimulation toy, perhaps providing baby a much needed distraction. The wood teether has an organic blend of USDA food grade beeswax and olive oil brushed into the wood as an additional protectant.

“These can be easily added to strollers and carseats.”

ootds from the store

In The Store - 5Some of you older folks may be wondering what “ohhhh-tee-deee-ss” are. I often use this tag in my fashion posts, both on Instagram and my blog. It is internet slang for “Outfit of the Day.” It is a simplified search term that attracts other like-minded individuals to my social media sites. In other words, it’s just easier to write.

In The Store - 3Lately, I’ve been pairing up more clothing items when promoting what is now available at Potomac Trading Post. I find that I get more feedback from followers of the store, in addition to more sales. The OOTD pictures have a much cleaner look, as they are more in unison with one another. Here are a few examples of what I have been photographing.

special delivery

Special Delivery 1-1So far, this week has been nothing but pleasant surprises. They began on Monday night when I received two amazing parcels. The first was a highly anticipated one, and was discussed in this blog post here. The second was one that I had completely forgotten about, thus rendering it the best surprise bar none.

If you guys can recall one of the earliest posts from the Home series, you will remember reading about a stand-up fellow by the name of John, who showed us a snippet of where he lived, both on land and at sea. John is such an incredible photographer, one that I first came across on Instagram but have been following on his own blog as well. On Monday night, I was lucky enough to receive a print of his in the mail that was taken on one of his many voyages. Once again, I cannot stress enough just how important Instagram has been to me over the last year. From meeting new souls, to selling store items, to receiving positive messages and slowly honing in on my own photography skills, this community has been incredibly beneficial in so many ways.

With my good mood remaining, and the realization that summer is not yet slowing down, the following morning I could not stop thinking about one of my only hats that I currently own. It was also currently missing. With no trace of it for over a year, I concluded that it must be hidden in a box that we had yet to unpack from our many moves. This particular accessory is very important to me. I had first come across my black derby four years ago in Denver, CO, yet I didn’t actually purchase it until I had returned to Canada and could not get it out of my mind. I believe that my true longing for it went much deeper, however. Growing up with a love for Casper comics, I had always adored Spooky and his ‘doiby’. Unbeknownst to me, I wouldn’t actually own one until twenty years later. When I returned home yesterday morning I had decided to search for this hat. I opened what was the first of about thirty boxes, and there, buried at the very bottom, was my derby. I can promise you that I said a little prayer of thanks to whatever gods of luck have been on my side lately.

Of course there have been a few downs, as well as more ups, but all in all it’s turning out to be a really special week. If only each and everyone of us was always this fortunate! Lady Luck, please don’t leave me now.
