photo_03photo_01photo_04photo_02Happy Civic Holiday Canadians! How was your weekend? Better yet, how do you like my title? Pretty trippy, right? I did it on purpose, given the movie that I am about to discuss. Can I just say that I found my favourite movie of the year? Ok, maybe not my #1 movie, because it is tied with two others. Let’s say my 3rd #1 movie of the year! Confusing? Right!

Here is a synopsis of The Double:

“Simon is a timid man, scratching out an isolated existence in an indifferent world. He is overlooked at work, scorned by his mother, and ignored by the woman of his dreams. He feels powerless to change any of these things. The arrival of a new co-worker, James, serves to upset the balance. James is both Simon’s exact physical double and his opposite – confident, charismatic and good with women. To Simon’s horror, James slowly starts taking over his life.”

Not being a fan of Jesse Eisenberg, but one of Mia Wasikowska and Richard Ayoade, I went into this film with some trepidation. Let me just say that no trailer can do it justice. It felt like it was a mix between Rear WindowThe Fight Club, and Amélie while still being completely original. It was outrageously dark and enthralling. It was suspenseful and clever without coming across as pretentious. It was dry and humorous. It was an artistic explosion for your senses. Honestly, it has everything that I look for in a movie. Yet, it has more than that because I was not expecting it to be such a creative film. I would be insane to give it a rating less than 100%.

Watch the trailer now, then run to the theatre to see The Double.

today is labour day!!!

no, it is not a national holiday to celebrate birth, it is a day to celebrate worker’s rights. or, for us canadians, a day that signifies the last long weekend of the summer. or, in our case, an excuse to have the day off and watch a beautiful firework display! either way, everybody wins. :-)))

have a wonderful labour day everyone!
