october corn maze

corn-maze-1Last Sunday, Geoffrey, Remy, and I visited a local corn maze. Located just outside of the city, it’s actually on the highway to The Little Barn. Because it’s held at the same location each year, I told my husband that one great aspect to living in TLB was that we would be only a few minutes away from the corn maze. Then we moved, and once again, it’s a bit of a drive for us.

corn-maze-12corn-maze-3Like I said, we had been planning on going to the maze for months. Actually, I’ve been planning it since before Remy was born. This was something that Geoffrey and I have done every year since we started dating. Fall is our favourite season, and being outside in the maze on what usually ends up being a grey day (also our favourite), is like heaven to us. We intend to take Remy to a corn maze every year until she’s too cool to go with us anymore. I’m honestly just so excited for this tradition!

corn-maze-8corn-maze-9Being so close to Halloween, I was worried that the maze was going to be busy. It turns out that we were virtually the only ones there. We couldn’t have planned it better. We had so much fun, and little Rem was a’maze’d.

corn-maze-11All in all, the maze was muddy and the weather was a little chilly and gloomy. It was absolutely perfect.

corn-maze-15Only four days until Halloween!

Screen Shot 2015-10-29 at 9.54.13 AMThe month of October came and went so quickly that I almost can’t believe that it was even here. These are some of the things that we got up to during that busy time.

Beard Oil DIY - 9Did you happen to see my do-it-yourself posts? First, I featured an easy beard oil tutorial. Then I had a duo candy and candle pumpkin holder, just in time for Halloween.

il_fullxfull.735150734_32zlI had several fashion posts, from a cropped jacket restyle, to a movie date outfit, to my favourite baby finds on Etsy.

Pregnancy Pillow - 3Speaking of babies, I shared my best purchase thus far, and celebrated being 20 weeks along!

Movie Date OOTD - 10Surprisingly, we only went to one film last month! However, we did watch several online, and I discussed the scariest ones here.

IMG_2740Wren from Florian shared her enchanted home tour on the blog.

Edmonton Trip - 13We also took a weekend trip to our dream Canadian city, and one that we hope to move to in just a few short months.

IMG_0887Last but not least, Truman celebrated his birthday at the end of October. He is now 3 years old.

IMG_0793Now that we are already into November, the days are getting shorter and colder. Soon there will be snow, and I will be having my 30th birthday this month. Yikes!

Screen Shot 2015-09-30 at 10.57.34 AMWhat. A. Month. It’s not surprising that Kinfolk‘s latest issue also centres around family because in September, I experienced a lot of it.

BabyTo begin (or really end the month), my sister had her fifth child on September 29! This is her second son, and what is even more special is that she now shares a birthday with her newest addition. Can we say best birthday gift ever?

Baby Anouncement 6Speaking of babies, at the beginning of the month I had announced that my husband and I were having our first child! I published its first sonogram photo and explained why I my blog posts were diminishing over the last few months. Later on, I gave you guys a 16 week update on my bundle of joy/morning sickness. Tomorrow I will be 18 weeks!

il_fullxfull.571562058_13vjThere were no shortage of fashion posts in September. I showed you my cute new cellphone case, and published a post on all canine-related Etsy items. Last but not least, you were able to see what is now available in the store.

Golden Hour 3There was some discussion regarding photography. I began by discussing the best time to take photographs outdoors. This is ultimately known as the Golden Hour. I also told you why I prefer film over digital prints in this post here.

Carrot and Potato Soup - 2There were a total of three DIYs this month. I had a recipe for Potato and Carrot Soup, a Side Table Terrarium from A Beautiful Mess, and finally a Polaroid Display

IMG_0090Finally, Geoffrey and I ended up going to three movies in September! First we saw No Escape, which I would give 7/10. The next movie was Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation (8/10). We saved the best for last, and went to The Gift (10/10) on the evening of the lunar eclipse. I highly recommend the latter film!

Jan Lake Lodge - Trip 2Enjoy your weekend, and the first day in October. I personally consider this to be my favourite month of the year!!

The Hills 02 The Hills 03The Hills 06As part of my sister’s birthday gift, I had offered to photograph her ever-expanding family. Over the years, I have often captured them in groups of two, three, or four, but rarely have I been able to get all six in one photo.

The Hills 08 The Hills 11The Hills 16The Hills 19She was more than happy to accept her gift, and so one beautiful day in October we spent an hour in her backyard sitting, jumping, running, sitting some more, laughing, and most importantly, shooting. Just because photographing four small children isn’t difficult enough, we decided to add their two little dogs in some of the pictures.

The Hills 14 The Hills 24 The Hills 25Almost every photo turned out perfectly. I guess my job was made that much easier since I had such a beautiful family to work with.

The Hills 27The Hills 32Have a good Remembrance Day. I hope that you’re spending it with loved ones.

Screen Shot 2014-10-28 at 8.30.30 PMNot only is today Halloween, but it also marks the last day in October. Another month has come to an end. I always feel a bit nostalgic on these days. Like something important is concluding. Do you agree? Yet, at the same time, I like these days for the sole purpose of being able to sum up the entire month of blogging.

Screen Shot 2014-10-28 at 7.59.24 PMWhile 30 days may not seem very long ago to most people, to a blogger who publishes 5 posts a week, it feels like a lifetime. No longer do our previous posts seem relevant, as we are typically already planning an entire month in advance. Thus, something that we posted one month ago, in actuality, is really two months ago in our minds. A lot can happen in two months!

That being said, let’s finally discuss what did happen in October.

BeFunky_04.jpgI began the month with the introduction of my store’s website, as well as the grand opening of Potomac Trading Post, Ltd. itself. I also published my Pinterest finds on my store inspiration.

Holly03Next, I described the big changes that I’ve gone through emotionally this summer, as well as dealing with Holly’s health problems and being able to witness the self-effacing beauty in a dog’s own strength and will to survive.

Screen Shot 2014-10-09 at 10.41.45 AMWe celebrated Thanksgiving in Canada. I wrote about what I was thankful for, in addition to showing you my outfit for the delicious holiday.

01.jpgSpeaking of food, my husband was October’s guest blogger and he made the most delicious Butternut Squash Pasta.

J+J 08I was hired to shoot a prairie couple and their dog, seen here and here.

Moon.jpgI also blogged about my discovery of RAW format, not to mention testing it out on the night of the partial solar eclipse. (The former of which has become one of my most liked posts!)

BeFunky_2.jpgIt wouldn’t be a successful month without including at least one home design idea. Here is my reigning kitchen concept.

Screen Shot 2014-10-14 at 9.58.13 AMThis was probably the most that I’ve ever blogged about The Little Barn as well. I showed you our roofsiding, and appliances in these posts. I also discussed the idea of a dream home and you guys had some really amazing and insightful advice on the topic.

Processed with VSCOcam with a6 presetOn a rare evening out, we were able to see the film Pulp Fiction in theatres. What a great night that was!

IMG_1050 copy06.jpgOf course, Halloween also occurred this month. I began by showing you the cutest pumpkin DIY, not to mention 10 scary film choices, a healthy holiday treat, a makeup tutorial, and finally, our costumes for that night (tonight, in fact).

Screen Shot 2014-10-28 at 7.58.56 PMIt was such a busy and diverse month. Bring on November, baby.
