For my husband’s birthday this year, we decided to do a handful of unrelated things rather than one or two extravagant events. Although it was Geoffrey’s day, he didn’t care what we ended up doing, as long as we spent it together. Visiting antique and coffee shops? Check. Grabbing a quick lunch at McDonalds? Check. Coming home three times to walk the dogs? Check. Taking a drive out of town to look at acreages for sale? Check. Going out for supper with my parents? Check. Ending the night with a movie that neither one of us really wanted to see? Check.
Like most married couples, we have our ups and downs. However, I feel so blessed to have such a sweet man in my life. I feel as if we have come a long way within the three years that we’ve been married. I love the life that we’ve carved out together. We try to live simply, making sure to care for our house, pets, and one another. We like to keep our noses to the grindstone, and remember to take the time once or twice a week and spend an evening together. Geoff doesn’t ask for much, and I hope that I don’t either. For us, simplicity is what sustains our marriage. Right now, I wouldn’t change that for anything.
Happy birthday again and again, my love. I will see you all in February!
