a pop-up shop in pictures

IMG_1.jpgIMG_2.jpgIMG_3.jpgIMG_4.jpgIMG_5.jpgIMG_6.jpgIMG_7.jpgIMG_8.jpgIMG_9.jpgIMG_10.jpgTwo weeks ago, I held my first ever Pop-Up Shop in our backyard. The event had a constant flow of customers, of which I am thankful for. My husband was nice enough to help me out during those two days. Every so often I needed to go in the house and warm up, and so he would take over for me. Holly also stayed by my side the entire time. She was a hit among our visitors, and such a comfort to me. Of course, you cannot have a sale without meeting some characters. One in particular lives in our neighbourhood. At one point when we were both inside, we saw an individual who lives down the block come wandering into our yard.

“Geoff, go out there,” I said.

“Em, it’s the creepy guy from down the street!”

“Maybe he’ll buy something.”

“He doesn’t have any money!”

It turns out that he didn’t buy anything, but rather just looked around and shook the change in his pockets.

“See,” I told Geoff, “he did have money after all.”

The Pop-Up Shop was an eventful two days. While the skies did stay sunny, the weather hovered somewhere around 5°C. It was frigid, to say the least. If I were to do it over again, I would wait until it was warmer. Being it that we lived in a cold province, the best months would therefore be between June and August. Next time, because there will be many more to come, that is what I’ll do.

Have a wonderful Victoria Day, Canadians!

pop-up shop + blogiversary

001.jpgHello again, lovelies! I must apologize for my lack of a post yesterday, and of all days to do it! It turns out that May 1st was the Blogiversary of the day that I started Hello, Scarlett Blog! Although my first post on this site occurred on June 1, 2013, I began this blog on this domain at the beginning of May. So thank you, my dear readers, for helping to make this such a joyous space for me. I hope that this coming year will continue to be a positive experience for me, and a site that you look forward to visiting three times a week.

Now to address the reason behind my absence. This weekend I am hosting my very first Pop-Up Shop! I have been wanting to do this for nearly half of a year now, but was always too shy to approach any businesses about renting out their space. I decided to wait until the weather became warmer, and to host a Pop-Up Garage Sale in our backyard. So today and Sunday only, that’s where you will find me. If the outcome is successful then I hope to have one at least once a month.

Did you know that if you purchase any of them that you will receive a 25% discount with the code “HSB”? Be sure to take a look, ok? You can send me an email if you have any questions or concerns, or would just like to chat. Also, follow me on Instagram for the latest updates this weekend!

take your mama out all night

This post is dedicated to my mama. No, she didn’t die. She’s just really, really awesome. I’ll get to why in a minute.

Over the past few weeks, I have made some adjustments to the layout of my blog. These changes have been so subtle that many of you probably haven’t noticed. However, if you are the avid fans that I hope you are, and you did notice, then good for you! You get five gold stars. ;-)))

The reason why I give mention to the layout is because one of the modifications that I did make was to the top menu bar. I decided to get rid of it when I decided to close the (virtual) doors to the Hello, Scarlett Store. The store was launched around the same time that I started up this blog. In a way, I’ve always associated the store with my blog. Yet, over the past few months Canada Post has significantly raised their prices twice, coupled with a lack of time to photograph and post my merchandise, and eBayers who would lowball my items and subsequently not pay for them, I’ve had a declining interest in keeping the store open. That being said, if it wasn’t for my mama, the store would never have been as successful as it was. Each month I came out on top, and her items were always my best sellers. She made the Hello, Scarlett Store what it was, I merely put the finishing touches on it.

It felt awful to tell my mum that I would be closing down the store, but like any good mother, she understood why. However, this is not the end. I already have a pop-up shop in the works, and a revamped HS Store will be coming soon on Etsy. The new store will mostly feature handmade items with some leftover and vintage clothing from my original business.

So, dear readers, here is my latest prairie fashion video. It has many of the clothes that were once featured in the store, and many of which were supplied by my precious mama. Get ready!
