photographing my birth photographer

Geoffrey and I met and fell in love with Sasha when she was one of the instructor’s at our birth prepardness class. She was also a doula, mother to four, and birth photographer. She wore many hats.

Sasha was one of the few people that was present for the duration of my labour. Because she was there for the most important moment for our little family, I think that I will always have a special bond with her. So as you could imagine, I was honoured when she said that she would like to hire me as her newborn photographer. She was about to give birth to her fifth child!

After her son arrived, I waited a month before driving out to their farm. It just so happened that it was also her birthday. How lucky was I to be able to not only meet that little cutie, but to spend an hour with her on such a special day? I swear, sometimes I have to pinch myself just to make sure that this new path that I’ve recently begun is real.

These are just a few of those photographs. To book a session, please visit Prudence + Me Photography.

braiding palm leaves

This week is Holy Week, which began with Palm Sunday. We were given palms at our church along with the rest of the congregation. Our newsletter states:

“Blessed palms have always been respected as holy objects or sacramental. Some families place one or more on the wall behind a crucifix or holy picture until the next Palm Sunday, or they might braid them into crosses for wall decorations.”

This was the first year that we received palms. When we got home, Geoffrey set to braiding them just as he had done when he was younger. We plan on displaying them with our other important possessions once they’re dry.

Remy was baptized at this time last year, which is so fitting given that this is the time when we, as Christians, renew our baptism.

I also found it fitting that Geoffrey braided the palm leaves on our church pew that serves as our dining room seating.

I hope that everyone has a wonderful Easter! I’ll see you next week.

i have recently discovered my new favourite ebay store! tambukiki!!

my most common search terms in ebay include “bodysuit,” “ballet,” and “wildfox.” when i typed in “ballet” and limited to dresses in my size, i repeatedly saw results for one store in particular. being the curious cat that i am, i clicked on the link to take me to tambukiki. i was instantly taken aback by their beautiful garments, how they were unique without being too garish, and their reasonable prices. i felt as if i had discovered a gold mine! not only that, the sellers were quick to ship the items, and even quicker to leave wonderful feedback. i guarantee that i will be shopping from them again and again.
