34 weeks

I’ve experienced a few ups and downs since week 32. Only one day after my last prenatal appointment, I was back in my doctor’s office because he was concerned about my contractions. I was experiencing Braxton Hicks every 10 minutes or so for over 24 hours, and wasn’t able to do much of anything. I had called my doctor to see if he had any suggestions, and that’s when he told me to come back to see him. He ran a few tests, but everything came back negative. His diagnosis was to start taking it easy, and to get help with Remy. Impossible, I told him (given that we have no family nearby). I said that I would try though.

Less than a week later, I suddenly had very sharp contractions one evening. They were occurring every 2 minutes. My husband was out of town, so I put on Remy’s nursery rhymes and went upstairs and took a bath. I had a feeling that they were just Braxton Hicks again, but I had never felt such painful ones before. I stayed in the bath for almost an hour, timing the contractions. They would go from 1 minute, to 5 minutes, to 3 minutes, to 2 minutes, to 5 minutes, and so on. My app kept telling me to go to the hospital, but it was almost Remy’s bedtime and I couldn’t get out of the tub. I thought if I needed to, I would just deliver in the bath and call an ambulance. In my mind I was thinking that “this could be it.” I finally crawled out and called my sister crying. She said to drink a ton of water, and go to bed. I somehow got Remy to bed that night, then went myself. The frequency finally stopped a few hours later. That was probably the scariest moment of my pregnancy thus far.

Since then, I’m trying so hard to rest when I can. I’ve cut out the daily walks and instead am only going every few days. I’m also drinking more water throughout the day. Honestly, I’m not sure how much longer my body will cooperate with me. I do hope that if he/she comes early, that it will be a healthy baby! Until then, I’ll be packing my hospital bag a little sooner than originally planned.

Here’s a reminder of my 34 week update with Remy.

32 weeks

Week 32, or 7 months pregnant. I have been feeling pretty great lately. My heartburn isn’t as bad as during my first pregnancy (I think because I am carrying lower). My weight has slowed down as well. During the second trimester, I was gaining around 2 lbs per week. Now it’s less than 1 lb per week. In total, I have gained 28 lbs! Yikes.

I have been experiencing constant contractions, much like I did with Remy. It was around this time that I was put onto modified bed rest until I gave birth at 38 weeks. At my most recent 30 week exam, my doctor wanted to perform an internal exam to see how dilated I was. I declined one, because I said that knowing the number would only make me nervous. I had to take a urine test instead, but I won’t know the results for a few more days. I was also measuring 3 weeks ahead, so God only knows when our little babe will arrive. Maybe he/she will be an October baby.

I feel wonderful for making it this far. Although I don’t want him/her to arrive just yet, I have peace in knowing that if I did go into labour early, chances of survival are over 90%.

Here is a look at my previous 32 week update.

Have a great weekend! What are some of your plans?

28 weeks

Helloooooo, 3rd trimester! It feels almost surreal to be saying that. In the early stages of this pregnancy, I felt like this day would never come. Now that it’s here, I can’t believe just how the time is flying by. Having a toddler around certainly makes the days go by quicker.

So much has happened baby-wise over the last month. From eyes, to nose, to teeth, to weight, it’s as if it picked these few weeks to become more like an infant, and less like a fetus. If that makes sense?

As for me, my heartburn has diminished, and my swelling has gone away! My Braxton Hicks contractions have intensified, however. I now experience them pretty much all day long, everyday. I’ve resorted to wearing a belly band- something that I didn’t have to do with Remy. But I was also never this big with Remy! I now weigh what I did when I gave birth to her, but at 28 weeks as opposed to 38 weeks. It looks as if I’ve swallowed a basketball.

My sleep has gotten worse, which makes my hormones worse as well. I feel like I’m getting along better with family members, but I seem to take out my pain and tiredness on my husband. I feel incredibly guilty for that, and can’t wait until my hormones go back to normal.

Until then, I’m glad that little babe and I have made it this far. As my doctor put it- two more weeks and we’re in the home stretch!

Thanks for joining me, everyone.

24 weeks

Friends! I’m now 24 weeks pregnant. Or 6 months, if you are counting literally. This will also be the last month of my second trimester.

I have been so lucky over these last 4 weeks. I have had next to no symptoms, aside from daily heartburn, the nightly swelling of my legs and feet, and periodic Braxton Hicks contractions. Looking back at this time with Remy, I see that I was also feeling great and established a really productive routine during the day. This must be the magical time of pregnancy for me, at least. I cannot say the same for all mamas with great certainty. If only all pregnancies were this easy. ;-)))

Here are a few more facts about growing babe:

– he/she weighs about 1.3 lbs
– now measure him/her head to toe
– his/her skin has a pinky hue
– he/she can taste what I eat

So far, I’ve gained around 18 lbs. It’s more than I would have hoped for, but as long as we get a healthy little one, it is worth it!

16 weeks pregnant

16 weeks pregnantWell guys, I am finally at the long-awaited 16 week mark in my pregnancy! When the morning sickness initially settled in, my sister (who is also pregnant) had told me that everything would get better around this time. She was right! My symptoms are not nearly as bad, and although I feel much more tired than in my first trimester, my returning health has given me a new lease on life. I have even started going to the gym again!

Here is a little update from Baby K. So much is happening this week! Also, I have finally got a bump! It seems to have come out of thin air, and appeared sometime last week. It will get much bigger in the next three weeks, and I cannot wait.

I hope that the baby is happy and healthy in its temporary home. In the meantime, I should probably stop jumping around. I’m just so happy!
