float on.

this month we were lucky enough to get away for one night in order to have a winter road trip. our goals were to buy everyone’s christmas present, and to shop for ourselves. (we aren’t completely selfless!) while the trip went very quickly, it was an incredibly fun and productive one. :-))

this was also the first time that i shot only videos of our holiday! so readers, here is our vacation in 3 minutes. have a great week!!

the riverboat cruise.

the shearwater river cruise will always have a piece of my heart. here is an outline of its important role in my life:

in 2009: *g* and i had been friends for a few months, but had been dating for less than one. wanting to experience something different together, we thought that a few hours on a boat would be perfect. it was, and a new tradition began that very night.

in 2010: that summer we were married and moved away, so unfortunately we missed it that year.

in 2011: having moved back to the province, we happily made our second trip down the river! it was magical, and it made us feel like we were home again.

in 2012: our city purchased a showboat from las vegas, and the cruise itself was transformed. the boat was given a new name; the prairie lily. this time, we brought my parents along and made a double date out of it. it was a night that i will never forget! (we also promised one another to take my baba on the boat the following year.)

in 2013: my baba had her heart attack in may, and for the next four months her health deteriorated. we never did get her aboard the prairie lily, but she did watch it from her hospital window and would often talk about it with my mum. so this year, and once again, it was just *g* and i. i do love these nights with him, and i hope that we continue doing this every summer.

above is a photo of the mendel art gallery and conservatory. because we live quite close to the river, we often walk to the gallery and in and around this amazing area. life can be so beautiful. :-)

have a wonderful weekend, everyone! happy thanksgiving to all of my fellow canadians.

hello wilderness vacation.

every summer when i was younger, my family and i would vacation at jan lake lodge. i always looked forward to making that long trip into northern saskatchewan, because even though it would always rain and there was always some fight between my siblings and i, being there felt like we had just found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. it was an isolated little piece of heaven.

as we grew older, we eventually stopped to j.l.l. for years, i did not even give the spot a second thought when it would come to mind. then suddenly, over 10 years later and now married, i found myself wondering what it would be like to go back there for a few days. this time, i would have my own family to take with me, and i would have new memories of the lake with them. so husband and dogs in tow, i once again made the long trip northward.

when we did reach our destination, i realized that while people grow and change, some places will always stay the same. what a bittersweet feeling it was to be back there.

this is our video of that week at jan lake lodge. i hope that you enjoy it.

camping style.

IMG_1last week we visited the northern part of our province where we camped city-style. what does that mean exactly? well, take two farm brats turn city brats and plop them smack dab in the middle of the wilderness and see what becomes of their fashion sense.

IMG_2 IMG_3to me, *g* looked like a metropolitan prairie boy. he wore an rvca tee, billabong shorts, nike shoes, and a patagonia cap.

IMG_4 IMG_5my look was more of a lost ballerina. i wore a forever 21 tee, lululemon leggings, new balance shoes, and a vintage headband.

IMG_6 IMG_7IMG_8IMG_9we stayed pretty active during our trip, and this photo shoot as well. for those who wish to hike like we did, but perhaps need a bit of assistance, here are the best walking canes on the market.

IMG_11we had so much fun taking these photos, and on our camping trip as well.

huzzah!

bicycle trailer diy.

*g* and i don’t have children yet.

what we have are two dogs and one cat that we treat like our kids.

two of our pets, holly golightly and truman capote, like to go everywhere with us. this makes me feel so guilty at times because although i always try to take them along, sometimes we are prohibited from doing so. this used to be the case for bike rides.

*g* and i both own vintage bicycles that we like to cruise around on. with living a stone’s throw from the river, bike rides are always so fun and so gorgeous to take. leaving holl and tru, however, is not so fun.

this year i made sure that we would come up with a solution so that they could start coming with us. *g* and i decided to buy a bike trailer and to alter it so that our not-so-little-senior-dog-with-a-weight-problem could comfortably fit inside without breaking through the bottom.

this is what *g* did.

1. we purchased a trailer.

2. next he measured and cut a piece of wood to the dimensions of the trailer.

3. then he fastened four l-brackets to the trailer’s metal bars.

4. he finished by screwing the wood to the brackets.

i’ll never tire of hearing “there are dogs in there!” or whizzing past other pedestrians with animals and seeing their startled faces when there comes a low growling noise from our bike trailer. :-)

now it really is ‘outdoor fitness fun for the entire family’!

p.s. remember to like me here!
