diaper bag review: the birch bag

Would you believe that we have never had a proper diaper bag? Six years ago, when I was pregnant with Remy, my dream diaper bag was out of our reach. It was simply much too expensive. As a result, we turned a vintage shoulder bag into a makeshift diaper bag.

Then with Wilder, we used one of my favourite leather backpacks. Although pretty, it lacked on pouches and compartments.

You had better believe that I was over the moon when my friends at Parker Baby Co. contacted me and said that they wanted to send one of their diaper bags! I was about to give birth to our third child and we had everything but that! We ended up choosing the unisex Birch Bag in gray so that both Geoffrey and I would feel comfortable wearing it. Believe me when I tell you that it is just as beautiful in person as it looks online!

What I love about the Birch Bag is that it is incredibly functional. It comes with a changing pad, stroller straps, insulated side pockets, and even a key ring. Not only that, but it is waterproof inside and out! Plus, it has over 10 pockets (which is a huge improvement from my backpack with just a single pocket).

I literally cannot wait to go places and bring this with us. I will no longer have to root through the bag to find an item as everything is just so nicely organized now. Plus, it looks amazing!

Be sure to check out more items on their website here. In doing so, you will be supporting a family business.

books remy loves: the classics

I must confess that I actually took these photos a few months ago with intentions to use them right away. However, too many more urgent blog posts needed to be published, hence the delay. That said, Remy still adores these books, and so the post’s relevance has not changed!

Goodnight Moon and Dear Zoo are two very sweet, and very classic children’s books. They’re also both amazing for two totally different reasons.

Dear Zoo is visually a very simple book. Each animal comes in a different cage- that of which the door opens. It therefore has the added bonus of being a lift-the-flap book. Plus, it has animals. What child doesn’t love a book filled with animals?

Goodnight Moon, on the other hand, is filled with delicate illustrations, colourful pages, and the best rhymes. It’s such a gentle and lovely little book.

Goodnight Moon remains one of my favourites to this day. I didn’t know that it came in a board book option until Remy’s grandma and grandpa bought it for her. I’m so glad! She loves it, and will look at it over and over again by herself throughout the day. I’m not sure why it’s so popular, but children and adults alike seem to love it.

I’m curious, readers. What are some of your (or your little one’s) favourite classic books? Please let me know in the comments below!

fin & vince

fin-vince-13One night a few months ago, Remy was up with the flu. Too worried to sleep, I laid beside her awake for most of the night. To pass the time, I was looking up children’s clothing companies on Instagram. Even though it was a horrible night, I ended up coming across the most beautiful company that makes clothes for kids. They are are called Fin & Vince.

fin-vince-15Fin & Vince’s slogan is “kidswear for the imaginative.” I just love that. To me, the pieces are retro-inspired but wholly practical. The fabrics are soft and the designs are unique. I also love that most of the pieces can be worn for either boys or girls. I don’t like dressing Remy in overly girlie clothes, and I often shop in the boy section for her pieces. This is where the gender-neutral items are.

fin-vince-12I just adore the look of rompers. I often wear them, and I love how they look on Remy. I prefer them over dresses, mostly due to mobility reasons. While dresses are lovely, they are not practical when it comes to crawling. They often get tangled under her knees, restricting her forward movements. I end up having to tuck them into her tights. With rompers, there’s no worry about the fabric becoming tangled. You also don’t have to worry about tights, or pairing a top with bottoms. It’s all one piece. They’re perfect.

fin-vince-14I bought Remy the Stork Romper because I liked the pattern. The pockets are a great feature as well.

fin-vince-11I purchased the Striped Baby Romper for her because of the pattern. Look at it. Isn’t it the cutest thing ever?

fin-vince-10I think that from now on, I will always order from Fin & Vince. However, it will only be a few items at a time due to their prices. It’s a little expensive, but it’s so worth it!

best horror films of 2014/15

10824730_10153162014632174_1340411728_oLast Halloween I had posted ten of my favourite sinister house films. This season I chose to publish a small list of what I feel are the most terrifying horror movies that came out in 2014 and 2015. (Number four on the list was so frightening, I couldn’t bring myself to finish it.)

1. As Above, So Below

2. It Follows

3. The Babadook

4. The Taking of Deborah Logan

5. We Are Still Here

What do you think, readers? Can you suggest any other scary films?

movie date ootd

Movie Date OOTD - 3Movie Date OOTD - 4A few days ago, Geoffrey and I went to see the film The Martian. What a great movie! We were able to catch it in 3D, which only made the experience that much more enjoyable. Coming from someone who is obsessed with thrillers and gory films, this one was equally as intense as watching a horror movie. I had to cover my eyes throughout several parts. It was that good!

Movie Date OOTD - 10Movie Date OOTD - 7Movie Date OOTD - 1Given that it is mid-October and we are still not wearing jackets during the day, I decided to take advantage of this unseasonably warm weather. I am trying to get away with not buying maternity clothes. So far, it has been easy. I have purchased a few new dresses, all one size up from what I normally wear. My leggings still fit, albeit they now rest under my growing stomach rather than comfortably on top. In two more days, I will be at the 20 week mark. I wonder how much longer I can go before I cave and have to start buying maternity outfits?

Movie Date OOTD - 5I purchased my dress from ThreadSence. The wool hat and terrarium necklace are for sale in the store.
