all about that bass

From about the year 2000 until 2006, I was obsessed with watching Jimmy Fallon on SNL, and SNL re-runs. I will be the first to admit that I had the biggest crush on him. After all, I was only fifteen years old. Well fifteen to twenty-one. Hey, I like dark-haired, pale, nerdy guys, ok? I thought that he and Tina Fey were brilliant news anchors. I also loved the way that he could almost never successfully get through a skit. His stifled giggles made my young heart go pitter-patter. Sometimes I would even pretend that I knew Jimmy personally, and for a few years my phone contacts would hear him instead of me when they got my voicemail. Some were confused, some got annoyed, and some just knew that was me in all my weird glory.

You may be wondering where I am going with this post? Ok, I’ll tell you. Every morning I log on to the ole inter-web and check out the highlights from The Tonight Show from the night before. They’re usually only a couple of minutes long, and always help me begin my day laughing at senseless skits. Once in awhile, they will actually be pretty amazing. I’m referring to his music, and his own talents as a musician.

I never gave much thought to the song “All About That Bass.” It plays every time that I am at the gym, so I had always regarded it as popular music and thus wrote it off before I even knew anything about the singer herself. While I still don’t know much about her, I am totally loving her ability to actually sing live. The fact that she did it with my main man, Fallon, gives her an instant awesome status in my books. I even think that their version is better than her video (although it is pretty damn cute, too).

Check out both vids, and let me know what you think!
