in the store

Sold1I am not sure what it is about this month, but sales in the store have skyrocketed recently. Last year at this time, Potomac Trading Post had been open for less than four months. January sales were probably the lowest that they had been all year. I thought that perhaps it was something that I was doing wrong, but it turns out that the first month of the year is usually the slowest for retail stores (given that customers are still recovering from Christmas). This year, January has proven to be a profitable month so far. So thank you, everyone! I could not have done it and would not be here without all of you.

HSSOLDPictured above are just a few items that have sold since Friday.

store bought bones

Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset Processed with VSCOcam with f2 presetA few weeks ago, Geoffrey and I took a rare trip into town together and spent the day running errands in preparation for our new home. We made it a prerogative to pick out our remaining bathroom lights, as well as our fridge, stove, washer, and dryer. In addition, we also had to meet a contractor out at our place first thing in the morning. In between all of that, I was also making deliveries for Potomac Trading Post, Ltd. Talk about a busy morning!

Processed with VSCOcam with a6 presetWe went to a lighting store that I’ve wanted to visit for a few years now. I picked out three really beautiful fixtures, which amounted to around $800. Then in true Emory form, I went home and found similar lighting for a fraction of the price online. Why do I even bother going shopping in person?

Processed with VSCOcam with c1 presetOur biggest expense was the lot of appliances that we ended up purchasing from the hardware store. I’ve had my eye on a combo washer and dryer unit for a few years now, and because we saved so much money on our fridge and stove, we decided to splurge on the w/d unit. I’m so excited!

Processed with VSCOcam with a6 presetAll in all it was a productive day. More importantly, we can now cross appliances off our to-do list for The Little Barn. Phew!

cactus flower

4.jpg 8.jpgDuring our last trip to Edmonton, Geoffrey and I went on a massive shopping spree for new clothes. We never shop for outfits in our current city, so when we are able to get away, we always make sure to squeeze in time to do so then. This last time I had apparently went flower crazy. Without realizing it, I bought a floral crop top from H&M, a floral skirt from Forever21, and floral leggings, again, from F21.

6.jpg 2.jpgMaybe it’s because I was so damn happy to be in Edmonton that I subconsciously wanted my blossoming soul to match my clothing, or maybe because it was the middle of summertime, or maybe its because I bought these items on two different trips to West Ed Mall and didn’t put two and two together. Or two and one together. Whatever the case, it doesn’t really matter. I bought three great items from some amazing stores for under $50.

7.jpg 3.jpgWhat happens when these happy accidents occur? Put your flower outfit together and go and have a photo shoot with your husband, who is also adorned in H&M clothing. Because baby, it’s an Indian Summer and let’s enjoy it like two cacti in the sweltering sun.

a weekend of antiquing

1.jpg 2.jpgJust a few weekends ago, my husband and I took yet another road trip to Regina, SK.

7.jpg 8.jpgI have to learn to stop going there. Well, maybe not entirely, but certainly not for anymore overnight stays. To our surprise, the city was hosting a CFL game between their local team, the Saskatchewan Roughriders, and a neighbouring team, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Suffice it to say that our downtown hotel looked and sounded like a giant frat house. It was insane. And not in a good way.

3.jpg 5.jpg 4.jpg9.jpg 10.jpgWe brought Holly and Truman with us that weekend. Geoffrey stayed in the vehicle with them while I shopped in the Antique Mall. I spent so much time there, and had every employee helping me to the point that one worker told me that next time I come, he’s going to made me punch in and out. I found many amazing items, and just being in the three-storey brick building alone felt like I was shopping in Brooklyn or some other magnificent, hip city. I am definitely going to be going back there often. Just not to stay the night. ;-)

13.jpg12.jpg11.jpgThe best part of the weekend was the drive back to Saskatoon. What started off as a gloomy weekend, suddenly turned into a comfortably warm day, with fluffy clouds and fresh prairie scents. We stopped off in a small town and grabbed burgers and hot-dogs for ourselves and our dogs. Then we drove to a side road, fed them, and went for a walk. It was nothing short of heaven.
