dear future husband

This is my second post that will be dedicated to Miss Meghan Trainor. This girl is awesome. After falling in lust with and discussing her song here, I subsequently came to adore her next two singles as well. However, it wasn’t until her newest song, “Dear Future Husband” that I considered myself a full-fledged MegaTron (fan).

“Dear Future Husband” speaks to me on so many levels, from satisfying my ears to understanding my modern-day womanly needs. Each line in the song has been something that I have said to my own husband at one point or another in our marriage. I couldn’t believe it. Finally, I felt as if someone was on the same page as me. Only, why did it have to be this lovely lady instead of my spouse? Why can’t all men think like this?

Before playing this song for Geoffrey, I said to him that I think that Meghan and I would be friends in real life. She just gets it. I also told him to take in every word if he never wanted to fight again. Guys, if you are reading this, then the same applies to you! Seriously, it’s just that simple.

Turn up your speakers and listen with your ears, head, and heart. This song is for everyone.

all about that bass

.

  .

From about the year 2000 until 2006, I was obsessed with watching Jimmy Fallon on SNL, and SNL re-runs. I will be the first to admit that I had the biggest crush on him. After all, I was only fifteen years old. Well fifteen to twenty-one. Hey, I like dark-haired, pale, nerdy guys, ok? I thought that he and Tina Fey were brilliant news anchors. I also loved the way that he could almost never successfully get through a skit. His stifled giggles made my young heart go pitter-patter. Sometimes I would even pretend that I knew Jimmy personally, and for a few years my phone contacts would hear him instead of me when they got my voicemail. Some were confused, some got annoyed, and some just knew that was me in all my weird glory.

You may be wondering where I am going with this post? Ok, I’ll tell you. Every morning I log on to the ole inter-web and check out the highlights from The Tonight Show from the night before. They’re usually only a couple of minutes long, and always help me begin my day laughing at senseless skits. Once in awhile, they will actually be pretty amazing. I’m referring to his music, and his own talents as a musician.

I never gave much thought to the song “All About That Bass.” It plays every time that I am at the gym, so I had always regarded it as popular music and thus wrote it off before I even knew anything about the singer herself. While I still don’t know much about her, I am totally loving her ability to actually sing live. The fact that she did it with my main man, Fallon, gives her an instant awesome status in my books. I even think that their version is better than her video (although it is pretty damn cute, too).

Check out both vids, and let me know what you think!

hair.

if you have been following hello scarlett, you might have noticed that my hair is very short and very blonde. i have had short hair for most of my life! i find it easier to manage, more fun to style, and most of all, i feel like myself when it is cut short. however, it has never been so short as it has been over the past 2 years.

so, dear readers, i feel as if it is time for a change. a few weeks ago i had my hair colored dark and started parting it more in the middle. (this latter part is a big deal since my signature look has always been side-swept bangs.) the goal? “gimme a head with hair, long beautiful hair.”

big yellow taxi.

joni mitchell is literally from my neck of the woods. the city i am living in now is the city that she grew up in. how cool is that?

“big yellow taxi” is my favorite song by mitchell. while it is a song that is based more on environmentalism than the environment that mitchell was raised in, i can’t help but envision summer fields, parking lots, screen doors, and wide, dusty porches each time i hear it. to me, that description wholly encompasses a typical summer here on the warm and sprawling land that is the canadian prairies.

hope you can listen to this and get a sense of where i come from. happy monday. :-)

coeur de pirate.

coeur de pirate (pirate heart) is a small band based out of montreal, quebec that found fame in 2008 when the lead singer, beatrice martin, was only 19 years old.

comme des enfants was the first song that i heard by cdp. it remains one of my favorites.

i hope that this music represents canada in a good way. ;-)

have a good week, friends!

p.s. for more artistic genius, here is beatrice martin’s tumblr page.
