happy easter

It has been a long winter here in Saskatchewan, and as of last week the wind was still blowing and the snow was still coming down. Part of me feels as if there is no end in sight to these cold months, but then the sun comes out and I see the geese returning and I am reminded that it is spring after all.

I wanted to include a quote within this post in order to remind myself (and any others that might need it) that warmer days are near. However, I ended up coming across so many wonderful ones that I couldn’t help but include them all!

I wish nothing but hopefulness and sunshine and rejuvenation for you during this season. Happy Easter from our little prairie family to you!!

“No winter lasts forever; no spring skips its turn.”
Hal Borland

“The reappearance of the light is the same as the survival of the soul.”
Victor Hugo

“Spring adds new life and new joy to all that is.”
Jessica Harrelson

“April hath put a spirit of youth in everything.”
William Shakespeare

“Spring shows what God can do with a drab and dirty world.”
Virgil A. Kraft

“You can cut all the flowers but you cannot keep spring from coming.”
Pablo Neruda

“To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow.”
Audrey Hepburn

“Where flowers bloom, so does hope.”
Lady Bird Johnson

“That is one good thing about this world … there are always sure to be more springs.”

po the saint

We recently added a new member to our household! Friends, meet Po, our St. Bernard.

This little girl is my fourth Saint and Remy and Wilder’s first. I’ve waited many years to get her, having wanting to be settled on an acreage before we did. We knew that moving out here meant that we could finally get one, and so last week we did!

So far she is very quiet and very sweet. I have had a couple of friends with kids over on different days, and everyone can’t believe how good and calm she is. They have all said that she doesn’t act like a puppy and it’s like we don’t even have a dog in the house. I asked for a calm temperament (because of our children) and I guess it paid off!

Remy adores her and Truman has even warmed up to her as well. We hope that her mellow attitude will rub off on him. Nothing seems to phase her, which is the opposite of Tru.

For now, this is our life with Po.

good-bye, dear prudence

Most of you don’t know this but Hello, Scarlett is actually named after my former dog, Scarlett O’Hara. Like Prudence, she also died from cancer at a young age. Scarlett was also Prudence’s half-sister. My entire blog is a reminder that we should love often, without regret, and with our whole heart. Never shall we forget those furry friends who give us a reason to get up every morning.

Although Prudence was bratty for the first 4 years of her life, and although she never came across a cat that she didn’t want to chase, she was the kindest, funniest, and most gentlest giant that ever lived. My parents were the ones who looked after Prudence, and I am eternally grateful for the life that they gave to her. She loved every person that she ever met, all of her brothers and sisters, every meal that was dished out for her,  every grooming (even though she was ticklish), every new day, afternoon, and night, every snowfall, every pond and puddle, and every animal that she played with, hunted, got kicked by, or ate. I am also thankful that I was able to spend the last minutes of her life with her. I know that she is thankful for all of these things as well.

I’ll miss you Pruby Tuesday. You’re gone with the wind, and you took a big part of me with you.

Dear Prudence
August 2008 – May 2014
Rest in peace my big, beautiful Saint.

Train roll on, on down the line,
Won’t you please take me far away.
Now I feel the wind blow, outside my door,
I’m leavin’ my woman at home, oh yeah.

Tuesday’s gone with the wind,
My baby’s gone, gone with the wind.
And I don’t know, oh, where I’m goin’.
I just want to be left alone.
Well when this train ends, I’ll try again.
I’m leavin’ my woman at home.

Tuesday’s gone with the wind.
Tuesday’s gone with the wind.
Tuesday’s gone with the wind.
My baby’s gone, with the wind.
Train roll on.
Tuesday’s gone with the wind.
Tuesday’s gone with the wind.
Tuesday’s gone with the wind.
My baby’s gone, with the wind.

Train roll on many miles from my home, see I’m,
I’m ridin’ my blues away, yeah.
But Tuesday you see, she had to be free.
Somehow I got to carry on.

Tuesday’s gone with the wind.
Tuesday’s gone with the wind.
Tuesday’s gone with the wind.
My baby’s gone, with the wind.

Train roll on, oh on,
‘Cos my baby’s gone.
I’m riding my blues babe,
Trying to ride my blues.
Ride on train, ride on train.
Riding my blues babe,
Good-bye Tuesday.
Bye Tuesday.
