baby name inspiration

Baby NamesNot very many people have asked us about our baby name choices. I am surprised by that, considering it’s usually the first thing that I ask expectant mothers. When the topic does come up, my husband’s response to those enquiring is usually “we’re not telling.” That irks me a little bit. I personally become annoyed when couples know their baby names, but treat it as if it’s the secret of the next great app. The same goes for someone knowing the gender of their baby, but refusing to tell anyone. What I do get is the worry that coincides with telling somebody your best name choices, and then that particular person blatantly using that name for their child. There just has to be a better response than “you’ll never knowwwww.”

What I have chosen as a reply to the burning question is “we haven’t yet decided on one name, we like too many.” That is pretty much the truth, given that I change the middle name of our boy or girl on a daily basis. I will say that our first names are almost set in stone. Almost. The other day as we were leaving my doctor’s appointment, my husband said to me that if it’s a girl, he would still like to call her Poppy. We’ve been calling our little one Pops and Poppy this entire time, since it was the size of a poppy seed when we discovered that I was pregnant. Poppy has not been one of our potential names, but instead has served as a nickname so that we don’t have to refer to our little one as ‘it’ or ‘the baby’. However, Poppy Kurysh sounds funny to me. So no, dear husband, I don’t think we’ll choose that name in the end.

All of our potential choices do have one thing in common. They are all Western names. I think that it’s so fitting in living on the Canadian prairies. Both of us have lived most of our lives on an acreage or farm as well. That’s also where little Pops was conceived. How could we not choose a name from the Wild West?

So without further ado, here are my favourite Western movies. The first is one of my favourite films of all-time!

1. No Country for Old Men

2. There Will Be Blood

3. The Salvation

4. The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford

5. 3:10 to Yuma

6. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

7. Bone Tomahawk

8. The Hateful Eight

Do you have any baby names that we should add to our list?
