remy is two

Remy is officially two years old today. Where did the time go? I have so much to say about my little goose, and yet, I can’t quite sum it all up!

So, I created a video that shows the previous twelve months of her life, and all of the fun we had.

You can also relive her eleven month photos that were taken on the same bed, one year ago.

I want to bottle up her sweetness and love for the outdoors and keep it forever. Happy birthday, darling.

xoxo

at the lake

We had spent Canada Day this year at the same provincial park where we built our last home. Three years ago, it was just Geoffrey, myself, and our dogs having a picnic on our newly purchased lot. We sat on the untamed earth, that was wild with sand, cacti, grass, and ticks. Later we went for a bike ride. The weather was hot and looking back, we were so young and naive about what was to come.

Last year, we took Remy to the beach that was only a stone’s throw from our home. It was overcast and muggy that day. We were the only people there, and for that reason, I loved it. We didn’t stay long as she was only four months old and couldn’t really appreciate it. However, I will always remember it and will tell her about her first Canada Day when she’s older.

This year, the weather was incredibly warm. Almost too warm! The sun shone the entire day, and there was hardly a breeze. We packed up Remy and her new Radio Flyer Trike, and made the long drive back to the provincial park.

A big part of me hates going there. I have such a hard time letting go of things. I always have and it’s something that I need to work on. I miss our little home on that sandy street more than I can bare sometimes. I often let Geoffrey know as he is the one who ultimately made the decision for us to move. Perhaps one day we will be back for good.

We parked in the church parking lot, and decided to walk to the beach from there. It was so busy this year! There were families and dogs everywhere. There were also many people paddle boarding and kayaking. Remy loved it, though. She’s a big people-watcher, and over the last few months she has started engaging with strangers a lot more. She won everyone over with her squeals and giggles and chubby thighs.

We also couldn’t get her out of the water. She’s always been a water baby and that day was no different. We spent the entire time being in the lake. She would crawl in up to her neck, or if I held her hands then she walked in up to her armpits. The bottom was pure sand, which is one reason why I love that beach. It’s small and soft on your feet. The deeper we went, the colder it became. She didn’t mind one bit. My tough girl.

It was just an amazing day. Did you guys enjoy your Canada Day/Independence Day as well? Let me know!

life with a toddler: bubble baths

I always knew that Remy would be a fan of bath time. When I was still pregnant, she would come alive in my uterus every time I had a bath. I took the best videos of her swimming around in me while I was swimming around in the tub. Do you know what? I was right!

In the 15 months that she has been earthside, Remy has only gone without a daily bath 5 times. That occurred in her first week when we were told by nurses not to bathe her until her umbilical cord fell off. Since then, she’s had a bath everyday, and often twice a day. We just love them!

Bubbles are also her obsession. I didn’t realize it until she was 8 months old and one of her Kindermusik instructors brought them out. She was so amazed by them. Since then, we make sure to let her play with bubbles with each bath. They always thrill her, and they never get old.

She is truly a delight in the tub. My little fish.

This is our life with a toddler. My heart is so full.

P.S. Have a wonderful Canada Day, all! Let me know what you’ll get up to in the comments below.

books remy loves: the classics

I must confess that I actually took these photos a few months ago with intentions to use them right away. However, too many more urgent blog posts needed to be published, hence the delay. That said, Remy still adores these books, and so the post’s relevance has not changed!

Goodnight Moon and Dear Zoo are two very sweet, and very classic children’s books. They’re also both amazing for two totally different reasons.

Dear Zoo is visually a very simple book. Each animal comes in a different cage- that of which the door opens. It therefore has the added bonus of being a lift-the-flap book. Plus, it has animals. What child doesn’t love a book filled with animals?

Goodnight Moon, on the other hand, is filled with delicate illustrations, colourful pages, and the best rhymes. It’s such a gentle and lovely little book.

Goodnight Moon remains one of my favourites to this day. I didn’t know that it came in a board book option until Remy’s grandma and grandpa bought it for her. I’m so glad! She loves it, and will look at it over and over again by herself throughout the day. I’m not sure why it’s so popular, but children and adults alike seem to love it.

I’m curious, readers. What are some of your (or your little one’s) favourite classic books? Please let me know in the comments below!
