Hey guys! Now that we’re in the month of December, it’s safe to partake in Christmassy things without getting an eye-roll. Last weekend, we threw ourselves into all sorts of festive events. Just like our corn maze, we’re hoping that this year will be the start of many new traditions now that we have a child.
On Saturday we went to an annual craft fair located at an event centre in our city. It’s an absolutely massive space with seating for 7,800 people. I hadn’t been there for over five years, so it was quite fun to return to it. We bought quite a few gifts and ate some really great food. Remy drew in all sorts of attention, of course. She’s such a little stinker.
She let us sleep in until 8:30 am on Sunday, which is pretty much unheard of. Being well-rested, but with a late start to our day, we went and picked up breakfast and played around all morning. Then we fed her again, packed up, and made the 45 minute trek to the Mason Christmas Tree Farm that is located just outside of the city. Remy slept while we listened to Christmas music. Once we got there, we got directions as to the type of tree that we were after, and then went hunting for the perfect tree to take home.
I thought that finding a tree would be easier than it was. Given that there were so many different kinds, it was hard to choose just one. Each one also seemed to also have a flaw, from not being tall enough, to not thick enough, not straight enough, or not green enough. After walking the entire distance and not settling on one, we decided to make our way back and be a little less picky. It was hard, but we finally found a tree!
Our tree is probably the least straightest of all the trees that were there, but it’s kind of endearing. It was a great size and shape, was full all the way around, and pretty green compared to the other trees. Geoffrey sawed it down in about a minute, and we set it aside. After bringing our vehicle around, I nursed Remy in the backseat while Geoff strapped it down to the roof. We were going to stay for some free hot chocolate and cookies, but decided to make our way back instead given that it was getting quite busy. Remy stayed awake on the ride home, and as soon as we got back, passed out. That allowed us to have a late lunch and set up our tree. The entire day couldn’t have gone any better!
Sunday also marked the last day of my first semester of schooling, since I handed in my final assignment that day. Now I get an entire month off! I’m so looking forward to spending it with my family, and renovating our bathroom. Hooray!
Have a wonderful weekend, everyone.
