  • Hello, Instagram

This was taken one year ago. It's hard to believe that she was so little. At 2.5 months old, I felt like I had already known her for years. Yet, I still had no idea what I was doing. I was a new mother, and I felt completely on my own. I told myself to take it day by day, and so I did. Somehow, she and I made it through and although she's still so young, our bond today is so unbelievably strong.
If it's not yet apparent, I'm in an extraordinarily sentimental mood. This morning I found a notebook that I had purchased when @omgkersh and I were seriously considering adoption. I was planning on detailing our journey for our future child. Looking at the date of the receipt, it read 02/25/15. Little did I know that exactly one year later, my daughter would be born on 02/25/16.
I truly believe that we are constantly being shown signs, we just don't always pay attention. I view what happened today as a reminder to stay strong during times of uncertainty. Things usually work out for the better. I just need to have faith. To say that she has a piece of my heart would be an understatement.

did you ever go to meeting uncle joe?

Has anyone ever put their child in Kindermusik? When my nieces were still young, my sister and sister-in-law enrolled them in the program. All I knew about it was that they sang “toys away” each time it was time to clean up. It was a bit that we did at home, and I didn’t know much about the class aside from that.

I put Remy in Kindermusik when she was eight months old. This picture was taken after her first-ever class. It was actually quite late in the game, as Cuddle & Bounce is from 0-12 months. Each class is 45 minutes in length and is filled with singing, circle dancing, baby massages, reading, sign language, and playing with a lot of different instruments. At first she was overwhelmed with the people as the noise. She’s a very serious baby in public and it takes her usually around 30 minutes to warm up in a room. After that, she squeals and zooms around. I loved Kindermusik from the start, but knowing that Remy wasn’t really into it at first had me questioning if I was even going to keep her in it. I’m so glad that I did! Not only have I made some really amazing friends from the program, but she so enjoys it now. I’ve also learned a lot about her overall development.

Tomorrow, Remy is going to graduate from Cuddle & Bounce and begin Sing & Play, which is for children from 12-24 months. I’m excited but also a little nervous. However, two of her best friends (and mine) will be joining us, so we should be just fine.

I highly recommend Kindermusik for any parent and child! Above is one of my favourite songs that we sing.

1st birthday: video

Processed with VSCO with a4 presetI am amazed that my darling Remy will be celebrating her birthday in just two days. Although I have been preparing for her party for over a month, to have a one year old is shocking.

This last year was by far the best year of my life. My life only truly began once I had my daughter. Before her, I think that I was lost. Now I have a purpose.

Remy is an intelligent, independent, and serious little girl. She loves to talk and eat. She adores books, animals, and being outdoors. She has two teeth, can say four words, mirrors every sound we make, is learning sign language, crawls, and is so close to walking on her own. She looks like her daddy but has my personality. She and I just get one another.

This last year was not always easy. From acid reflux, to work and school, to all of our family residing in another city or province, to living in three different houses. Yet, the fact that we always had a little face smiling up at us seemed to make every challenge almost or completely bearable. I tried hard to cherish every moment of every day with Remy, and in the end, I very nearly did.

Thank you for joining me in my pregnancy and baby journey. I will always be grateful for our little girl and how she made me a mother. I hope that you enjoy this video that I made, and will continue to follow along for the second year of her life. You guys are honestly so amazing!

I’ve also included a video of her playing her favourite game with me. At the end, she is showing off another one of her latest tricks. She belongs in a circus.

how to : get our baby to sleep

I must admit that prior to having a child, I thought that all babies would drift off to dreamland on their own. Was I ever mistaken. While sometimes this does happen, generally when it comes to her naps and bedtime, we can usually be found rocking and shushing her to sleep. Yet, this is not always enough. Cue the sounds.

Sam Smith

It was definitely trial and error when finding something to play that would lull Remy to sleep. Let’s start with vehicle music. I ended up trying every genre before finally settling on one. I thought maybe she would like oldies like her mum. Nope. Upbeat radio music. Nope. Hip hop? Definitely not. Heavy metal? Worse. Finally, it was by accident that I was listening to Sam Smith and she became a quiet baby once again. I’m not sure if it’s his voice or the piano, but every time that she hears his songs she falls asleep. That’s fine by me since I also love his music.

Womb Noises

Now let’s discuss naps and bedtime. Until she was five weeks old, nothing I tried would get her to fall asleep. For the first few weeks I constantly played lullabies for her. Yet, I found myself crying over them more than she was. Then it was white noise. She didn’t care for that either. A whirring fan? Nothing. Vacuum cleaner? She would stop crying but it didn’t make her tired. Then while scrolling through YouTube one day I clicked on noises of the womb. I’m not lying when I say that her eyes instantly closed and she fell asleep within minutes. I couldn’t believe it. Now it’s all that we play for her. It’s an incredible thing to see, and also makes me very sad. Perhaps she misses being in my uterus.

While every baby will be different, this is what Remy prefers. Do you have any good suggestions that we can add to our list?
