put the lime in the coconut and drink it all up.

I realize that this may be a strange title for a post, however, when I was thinking about how to cleverly add the word ‘kitchen’ to the title, I could only think of the Harry Nilsson song. You know, from the film Practical Magic when they’re dancing in the kitchen and this is the music that is playing in the background? My mind works in mysterious ways.

While we’re on the topic of kitchens, the one that was featured in that film is pretty much the look that I am trying to attain with ours for The Little Barn. It’s funny how you can completely put something that you like in the back of your mind, and suddenly when you’re writing a post for your blog, it comes rushing back to you with many other childish memories that tie into what you’re discussing. Come to think of it, I don’t ever recall seeing the movie in its entirety. Dammit. Now I have another one to add to my list.

I digress. I need to stop doing that. What this post is really about is Pinterest and it’s unending supply of rustic industrial kitchens. Who needs books and magazines anymore when you have the internet? Wait. I work in a library. Who needs the internet when you have … Ok, so we need it all.

Here are my most influential finds so far:

And just to add a little music to this post, and because Halloween is nearing, here you go!

girls: season 4

Lena Dunham has just released a sneak peek for Season 4 of GIRLS on her Instagram. I cannot even begin to describe how excited I am. In the words of Shoshanna, “Oh. Em. Effing. Gee.”

Here was an Instagram peek at Season 3. I’m definitely going to have to watch the entire thing again before January 2015.

Speaking of the third season, here is a clip of the premiere party.

I never thought that I would say this, but why can’t winter come any sooner?!

hello wilderness vacation.

every summer when i was younger, my family and i would vacation at jan lake lodge. i always looked forward to making that long trip into northern saskatchewan, because even though it would always rain and there was always some fight between my siblings and i, being there felt like we had just found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. it was an isolated little piece of heaven.

as we grew older, we eventually stopped to j.l.l. for years, i did not even give the spot a second thought when it would come to mind. then suddenly, over 10 years later and now married, i found myself wondering what it would be like to go back there for a few days. this time, i would have my own family to take with me, and i would have new memories of the lake with them. so husband and dogs in tow, i once again made the long trip northward.

when we did reach our destination, i realized that while people grow and change, some places will always stay the same. what a bittersweet feeling it was to be back there.

this is our video of that week at jan lake lodge. i hope that you enjoy it.
